| brycec | Can't say as I've noticed the behaviour... But if I had to guess, I would blame transit (either being sketchy/unreliable, or carrying some policy to tear down long connections). Unfortunately, there are many, many players and variables in play.

If it's just FreeNode, then I would hazard a guess that you're connecting over ipv6, and ARP's ipv6 transit is less than perfect :(.
