jpalmer: up_the_irons: I know this is probably an odd question, but.. I need a windows VPS. Do you know if windows 7 or 8 would work in one of your containers if I had you mount the CD image? (legit license and all, of course)
-: sng emails sales about upgrading.
jpalmer emails sales about downgrading.. to windows :/
sng: jpalmer: I'm sorry.,
After about a month or so I want to go to a jumbo with two coreds.
I am very happy.
jpalmer: sng: yeah, I'm seriously happy with ARP.. have a few VPS's with them (personal, as well as company) but.. I suddenly have a need for a windows VPS. Hoping ARP can do that.. but if not, I may have to signup for another service in addition :/
sng: jpalmer: Ping on me if they can't hook you up with a Windows box.
My corporate overlords are more expensive but I know they do Windows.
jpalmer: can do
I think I remember up_the_irons saying that he has a couple windows VPS customers, but not 100% certain.
sng: Ironically they don't do BSD and that's why I'm with ARP for my personal stuff.
brycec: jpalmer: Correct, up_the_irons has said that he has customers running Windows. So I'm sure you'll be able to.

mkb: this wifi adapter is a piece of crap
jpalmer: toddf: brycec thanks. I thought he mentioned it several months ago. didn't realize it was also a recent conversation. Good to know. I'd really prefer to stick with ARP for this VPS ;)

mnathani: Any hiccups on the network presently?
jpalmer: not that I'm noticing
I'm on kvr02, if it helps.
mnathani: might just be a local thing
jpalmer: up_the_irons: ping
hazardous: pong
jpalmer: hrm, misconfigured router! pings get pongs from multiple hosts. the new smurf?
brycec: lol
up_the_irons: jpalmer: pong
jpalmer: up_the_irons: so, I was looking into it. looks like we have 2 options. either IDE and e1000, or there is an .iso file of drivers for virtio
I obviously haven't tested either option. but both should be workable :)
so, which would be less work for you?
up_the_irons: jpalmer: i think about the same. is it a different ISO? i can just grab it...
jpalmer: it'd be an additional iso
up_the_irons: jpalmer: it would be better for a Windows instance to be running virtio, since i think it churns the disk more even if it is idle (big surprise)
jpalmer: ie, "load drivers from cd" kinda thing
up_the_irons: jpalmer: ok, so like 2 cd-roms
jpalmer: right
up_the_irons: jpalmer: yeah that's no big deal
jpalmer: ok, I'll submit a ticket with the URL. thanks. (no rush)
brycec: IIRC the virtio drivers/switch is done post-install
*usually
jpalmer: brycec: nah, the installer doesn't even see the disk, it just presents a "load drivers" option
brycec: jpalmer: under IDE mode? Weird
Never had that issue before
jpalmer: brycec: not IDE mode
brycec: Oh well yeah windows doesn't see virtio devices by default.
jpalmer: right. I found drivers for it though :)
brycec: In my deployments (been awhile since I did windows virtio), it's just been a simple "install on whatever emulated hardware, install the drivers, then switch to virtio devices"
up_the_irons: jpalmer: roger
hazardous: hi everypony :)
staticsafe: hi
RandalSchwartz: hey
mkb: up_the_irons, if you're still around, I emailed yesterday about disabling (yes, I made a mistake and can't boot...) virtio again and haven't gotten a response
