dragon*con. Atlanta jbergstroem: (sorry for the off topic) so, if i'm pretty happy with irssi (lets say 10 years of use has taken its toll) - why upgrade to weechat? brycec: s/upgrade/which
*s/upgrade/switch
Well if you're already regarding it as an upgrade, then you should "upgrade" :P
And frankly the only reason I can give is "to try it out". I tried it, but returned to irssi because I'm comfortable with it, it configured the way I like it, etc.
weechat has more bells and whistles, which is great. But in the end, I settled for what I already knew well. DaCa: jbergstroem: haha, I was exactly thinking the same thing until recently, never looked really into weechat, probably because of its ridiculous name, but then I looked at the website and I was sold immediatly, seeing its features jbergstroem: i don't really miss anything. guess my strongest argument atm is that its actively maintained. DaCa: most important reasons to switch for me: sane split window handling (and also vsplit), and its relay feature is also much better than irssiproxy brycec: http://www.irssi.org/ChangeLog irssi *IS* actively maintained
(granted, there are some 12 month gapes in it. but it IS)
*gaps
Yeah, weechat does splits much better. And I liked that I could have multiple channels on-screen at once. jbergstroem: brycec: you run trunk? brycec: Oh and weechat supports scripting languages besides perl (and there's another one hacked-in to irssi, either ruby or python).
jbergstroem: Nein

reardencode has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer) up_the_irons: jbergstroem: I would say, "if i'm pretty happy with _______", where ______ can be *anything*, then don't switch ;)
jbergstroem: i switched from irssi to weechat because i wasn't happy with some things in irssi; in any other case, i would say stick with what makes you happy
i wanted vsplit and also the input line to be under the actual channel, so then i don't accidentally put something meant for privmsg in a public chan (which has happened, and it sucked ;)
i can script plugins in ruby too, which is a big plus for me mike-burns: But I would say, "if I'm pretty happy with ___", it won't hurt to try something else with an open mind. ***: wakIII has joined #arpnetworks
