hazardousi dunno
too dangerous to go out at dark
maybe i can wait 2-3 hours and find a odnut shoppe
lol $anotherhost wants 25euro to install freebsd because "it requires advanced level 3 sysadmin time" or 50eur and 25eur/month for "kvm over ip access to install yourself"

toddfbrycec: guess one needs proxmox 3.1, I don't have that avail yet, trying via args .. ;-) [06:31]
mikeputnamjeez! i'm away from #arpnetworks for 2.5 days and now there's a bunch of scrollback! some people. *harumpf* [06:37]
staticsafe:) [06:38]
rgouveiamikeputnam: mostly proxmox problably [06:39]
toddfbah, kvm build on proxmox 3.0 doesn't enable spice [06:39]

brycecaw bummer toddf. Why is that not available to you yet? Some technical reason? [10:22]
....... (idle for 34mn)
toddfI can't exactly upgrade a client's proxmox system on a whim and my friends proxmox system is at 3.0 not 3.1, not exactly my job to upgrade his system
I have a system I'm prepping to get online but its not online yet, presuming it functions it will be my first in-house kvm capable system
aka I have no proxmox toy box of my own to upgrade and destroy as I see fit ;-)
[10:56]
brycecahh right, no proxmox of your own
well that's easily fixed... you can run proxmox inside another vm :D
[10:58]
toddfwhy didn't I think of that [11:09]
brycecbecause it's asinine? I mean, it works, but it's a Bad Idea(TM) (be sure to disable Hardware Virtualization on the VM, or qemu won't start) [11:13]
toddfif you could only hear my intonation and hear my voice. sarcasm becomes me. I know. I would only do that as a demo on the functionality not as a practical application. real hw in due time. [11:14]
brycecgotcha. yeah, text does not convey sarcasm [11:15]
toddfI actually tried to do a demo for a client moving from esxi to proxmox inside vmware, but the version of esxi installed didn't support nested kvm operations [11:21]

brycecI just use :P to denote sarcasm and similar [16:54]
gizmoguyI'm just sarcastic 100% of the time, makes it easy to tell [16:55]
m0undsdid you ever get to go home? [16:59]
gizmoguyYes!
officially the weekend here
[17:00]
m0undssweet [17:01]
gizmoguyhow's friday treatin' ya? [17:02]
m0undsmeh, inter-departmental nonsense wasting my time [17:02]
gizmoguyhaha that's the best [17:03]
m0undsyeah, facility IT dept is a joke - their network admin doesn't understand networks so they contract his job out to consultants and stuff [17:03]
gizmoguyDO YOU WORK WHERE I WORK? [17:04]
m0undshahaha, IT IS POSSIBLE
sister facility to where you work?
[17:04]
gizmoguysounds like it
our IT network team don't even know how to spell BGP
let alone run it in production
[17:04]
m0undshahahaha
fantastic
[17:05]
gizmoguywe recently started peering with a new provider such that we're now technically multihomed [17:05]
***ixokai_ has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) [17:05]
gizmoguycept all our local peering started going via this new circuit [17:05]
***ixokai_ has joined #arpnetworks [17:05]
gizmoguyso our primary ISP that we have a dedicated (private) 1gig link we started to connect to by going 5 cities over and back again
it was like that for a week before they learned how static routes work :/
[17:06]
m0undsoy
mine is just a lack of comprehension of how to route from A -> B within the same network
they wanted to..outbound NAT some transactional data to us, rather than just routing it to our gateway and letting us handle it
they wanted our internal network topo, despite the fact that we're just doing a quick NAT for this single stream of data we get from their point of sale systems (it gets processed by a dataveillance server on our side)
took them 2 weeks to figure out how to do it, and then they forgot to write out the config and rebooted the device (3750) so we lost the data stream again
they don't understand the problem because they "didn't change anything", but we're in the state we were in before they "fixed it" the first time. it's awesome.
[17:07]
gizmoguy...
NAT fixes everything right?
[17:11]
m0undsyeah, sure does [17:11]
gizmoguy12:09:21 < m0unds> took them 2 weeks to figure out how to do it, and then they forgot to write out the config and rebooted the device (3750) so we lost the data stream again
bahahahaa
[17:11]
m0undsyeah, and it's great because their edge devices are all 3750s
so wasteful, but we know they rebooted it because they took down every IT-connected device in my department while it booted up
their "new network" is going to be 2960s at the edge, and i hope they beat each other to death with the 3750s they take out
[17:12]
gizmoguyjust lol [17:13]
m0undsi'm just happy my network works, lol
we're separate because our systems fall under the casino regulatory body/gaming commission
lucky for me, or i'd be in prison for dispensing common sense with a shovel
[17:13]
gizmoguy:P
i'm amazed how some people get their jobs
[17:17]
m0undsyeah, guy also makes about $25k/yr more than i do :D
pueblo/tribe really needs to rework their salary system - regulatory is like working for the govt, resort/casino ops is like working at a business. their pay scales are much better.
