raptelan: my vm seems horribly bogged down right now - too much contention on the host?
there's a couple second delay to every command-line command, ls, cd, etc.
and stuff like opening vim or running rsync are horrendously slow
m0unds: raptelan: if you run mtr on the vm pointed at whatever ip you're connected to it from, are you seeing a lot of loss or anything?
raptelan: no, it's perfectly responsive
keyboard input is fine - it's not fine when the network is bad
it's just very slow
m0unds: huh. i'd fire an email to support and see what they can do
raptelan: it will probably just clear up; we'll see
I haven't noticed this ever happening before

houst0n: up_the_irons: Hey man, sorry to keep buggin ya but any chance of hookin up that iso for me today? In return: vast ritches, beer, women, etc

houst0n: Need to get this POC off the ground for getting rid of our own gear :)
Although, we're gonna have to keep the sparc stuff I guess

up_the_irons: houst0n: i did all my tickets yesterday, when did you send yours? perhaps it got lost
houst0n: how much sparc stuff do you have?
houst0n: i checked up on that ticket, i replied and it was completed. you even replied to my reply ;) please check again , it's done :)
raptelan: up_the_irons: I don't know.
up_the_irons: ah, kvr19
houst0n: Oh, cool thanks
:)
up_the_irons: houst0n: np:)
raptelan: kvr19 load is within tolerance
13:23:55 up 162 days, 15:33, 1 user, load average: 1.95, 1.61, 1.56
raptelan: sorry i can't be more helpful
hazardous: what's sparc o-o
houst0n: We're a solaris ISV, so we have a reasonable amount of sparc :)
CaZe: You have sparc VMs now?
houst0n: CaZe: For years and years
CaZe: Was asking up_the_irons.
up_the_irons: CaZe: negative
houst0n: Cool, it's installing. I forgot to tape a copy of the route table on the old VM - do I need any magic there?
Or should i RTFW(wiki)
up_the_irons: houst0n: ip assignments are listed in the Portal
houst0n: Also, pro tip, solaris does NOT LIKE FreeBSD formatted disks
had to dd the start of em heh
found it, thx

CaZe: Man, a Sparc VPS would be so cool.
Probably a lot of extra work, though.
***: HighJinx has joined #arpnetworks
houst0n: CaZe, would you be interested in that commercially or just to mess around with?
CaZe: Just to mess around.
sdkmvx: It's too bad that sparc never got more popular. It was a good architecture. I can't see it getting any less obscure under Oracle.
***: anisfarhana has quit IRC (Quit: work)
toddf: CaZe: just get a sparc v system (t2000,t3000, etc) and install openbsd, it can control the guest domains now ;-)
CaZe: Really? I thought OPenBSD was only supported as guest.
toddf: on sparc64 ... lookup ldomd
www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=ldomd
oops memory is bad, not ldomd, what is it hrm
brycec: Sorry, no data found for `ldomd'.
heh
toddf: flip archs to sparc64
or add &arch=sparc64
it is ldomd afterall
sdkmvx: does it work? I heard it wasn't done before.
toddf: I know several devs are using it, and some of the sparc64 ports are built in guest domains
sdkmvx: ah. nice
toddf: I'd like to get one personally too, just haven't saved up enough to pull the trigger just yet, not all that expensive on ebay
CaZe: Well, I'd need someplace to put it, even if I had one.
sdkmvx: that's what stops me. they're going to be loud, and I have no room for loud servers in my house.
-: CaZe has a Netra X1 that hasn't been powered up in years becuase of that.
sdkmvx: that and "do I really need another toy?"
toddf: ok so stupid poll, who would pay for a sparc64 vps that had a v6 address and perhaps v4 tunneled to it?
or would you want it in a real hosting center, aka arpmetal with 'bring your own server' ?
brycec: I think it sounds neat, but I have no use for such a system.
CaZe: What's the network connection for the first option?
toddf: my home business internet to start with 28mb down 12mbit up mostly unused ;-) I don't exactly have excess funds but maybe I could justify purchasing a system if I could generate a (admittedly small) amount of revenue off of it until i could get it in a real datacenter ..
CaZe: Hmm, I'd go for either, I suppose.
toddf: hope this is not too off topic, but .. if anybody wants to talk about a sparc64 guest domain on a system I'd setup and is obviously not connected with arpnetworks in any way .. email your interest to todd@freedaemon.com so I have some way to get in contact with you .. probably would be good to state what you'd want (mem/disk/cpu) and how long you'd be interested for (aka my timeline to get something together) ..
