ahh, it looks like the any2ix issue doesn't happen on another provider with any2ix with the other provider in san jose re so maybe it's los angeles to san jose any2ix bridge thingy that's congesting how's arp networks fbsd vps's been lately? robonerd: same as normal i expect :) good to see it growing i use openbsd ;) i use windows ;) mercutio: coresite has been doing some any2 upgrades recently (replacing switches, etc...) fun stupid question: it's 9 am and i can't think stright. how do i raise 'open files' for a specific user to unlimited fbsd 9p1 hazardous: if fbsd is like openbsd /etc/login.conf but thats all I can offer cheers it says something about cap_mkdb, do i need to relogin to take effect or something and/or existing processes need to be restarted? do you have something akin to /etc/login.conf.db ? otherwise, skip the mdkb .. the next setusercontext() will read that and set things accordingly so you can 'exec su user' or you can 'login anew' .. note if you are using ssh multiplexing that doesn't count, it has to be a new ssh multiplex session hm my user is set to openflies=unlimited already wonder what's overriding that $ sysctl -a |grep maxf kern.maxfiles: 12328 kern.maxfilesperproc: 11095 make sure you set the login class to match the login.conf entry in master.passwd i've kind of taken a liking to bsd compared to my usual it uses /usr/local and stuff properly isntead of shoving everything you install into /bin and /usr/bin usermod -L classname username another convert! twobithacker: wat hazardous: heh. now if you wanna debate the concept of 'all conf files in /etc' vs 'all ports conf files in /usr/local/etc and all base conf files in /etc' then you have one major difference between freebsd and openbsd .. i'm from ubuntu/debian where it's 'all conf files in /etc no matter where they're from' makes things quite easy when things transition from base to ports or vica versa imho but I'm from OpenBSD so consider the messanger Jun 25 09:55:08 egbert kernel: kern.maxfiles limit exceeded by uid 1033, please see tuning(7). Jun 25 10:07:15 egbert last message repeated 48 times Jun 25 10:10:45 egbert last message repeated 58 times lol sounds like you are referred to 'man 7 tuning' by your kernel, I suggest you take its advice ;-) alredy readin! toddf: doesn't freebsd put port conf files in /usr/local/etc also? so is this basically an overall bsd shop or something because it seems that way I'm pointing out that openbsd { SYSCONFDIR = /etc } , freebsd { SYSCONFDIR = /usr/local/etc } .. for ports that is toddf: ah ok hazardous: we started out focusing on the *BSD's but have grown to offer Linux equally as much, if not more; personally, I use Ubuntu mostly, and OpenBSD for several other boxes (console.cust, IPv6 router, another internal console server); i'm soon going to be building a freebsd box on an ARP Metal(tm) server so I can take advantage of ZFS hazardous: arpnetworks uses linux for the kvm hosts, lots of us run bsd systems as virtual guests, I've heard of debian and even plan9 on kvm hosts though. wouldn't be surprised if some used windows .. i think there are like 2 windows users some plan9 someone should see how zfs-fuse works in bsd, considering the `surprise' development of isc licensed fuse on openbsd ;-) like one or two netbsd (the lucky ones with the patience to figure out how to get it bootstrapped and working) just can't win w/freenode servers. can't go three days without the host going down. ddos attack or stability issues? no idea, don't care enough to investigate freenode has been a haven of ddos and nonsense as long as i can remember :) looked at my server log, and it shows no status message, just sigterm on the ircd of the host i was connected to lol yesterday morning (about 24 hours ago) there were some really nasty netsplits. I was connected to morgan. All of a sudden things went quiet, a bunch of nicks timed out... then all but two. I disconnected+reconnected and got morgan again in ths DNS RR. The server didn't even realize it had been netsplit lol awesome Yeah, took a few connections to get back to a live server I was on morgan for 2 hours before I realized what had happened. huh. hazardous has been idle 35secs, signed on Sun Jun 09 10:03:00 i guess kornbluth is ok i'm on rajaniemi now leguin here
