RandalSchwartz | interesting... freebsd-8.4
I didn't realize they would continue the 8.x series | [09:23] |

twobithacker | Seems like it's been common to keep two branches going for a bit now. | [09:26] |
RandalSchwartz | since I'm still on 8.3, this might be a simpler upgrade to attempt before hitting the 9.x series | [09:27] |
brycec | ^ exactly. They don't force you to make a major upgrade, at least not without time to prepare.
"However, as of 10.X, the 8.X branch will be designated for an “extended support” status and receive only fixes for major problems, such as security-related fixes." | [09:27] |

if you upgrade your pool, you can't go to 9.0 or 9.1 but instead 9.2 | [09:50] |

up_the_irons | i have enabled an auto-responder to support@ emails; it sends out links to hopefully relevant KB / FAQ articles based on the context of the request. if anyone has any feedback on this, just let me know | [11:40] |
RandalSchwartz | can I fake my source address as the support@ mail and get a mailstorm going? :) | [11:51] |
brycec | My feedback: Cool. | [11:56] |
up_the_irons | RandalSchwartz: i think it might have protection against that ;) | [12:03] |
hazardous | can i send a dumb email to it to test it out and then close the ticket if it opens one so i don't waste support time | [12:06] |

phlux | so I just talked with a Verizon rep about upgrading
They charge $30/phone to upgrade now so I asked why They responded that it helps Verizon "maintain and expand their network so that they can provide excellent service." I'm pretty sure my incredibly high bill accounts for that so I asked what they charge new customers it took him literally 2 minutes to respond "We charge an activation fee." so I said "Alright, we'll do some network shopping to compare other network's fees." He responded "Verizon's is the lowest." (POINT: He's correct) So I said "Well, thanks for the scripted answer!" fin | [17:14] |
hazardous | i use t-mobile in bay area, no activation fee, byo phone, no etf
decent coverage it sucks anywhere outside of major cities though | [17:25] |

one of my dogs got out a few minutes ago I was scared I had lost her forever :( We just got transferred to New Orleans, and I'm living on the Navy Base here..there's a swamp not too far from here, and I was afraid she had gotten involved with some animal she didn't need to be around | [18:53] |

they want $39/month extra for tethering if i try to use android's native hotspot function any client that connects gets all dns requests and http requests hijacked, all other ports blocked directed to a tmobile captive portal that tells you to buy service | [19:19] |

CaZe | hazardous: Just change your user agent string.
I use T-Mobile in Boston. Can't beat $30/month. | [22:42] |
hazardous | CaZe do they still do that obnoxious thing where they forcefully proxy all http traffic
via: harmony proxy/1.1 or something is a request header i see on just about everything | [22:46] |
CaZe | I have no idea what you're talking about.
I have no problems at all when I'm tethering my iPad though. And when I'm tethering my laptop, I just change the user agent string in my browser. | [22:46] |
hazardous | hmm
my tmo device sends these request headers, regardless of if i'm tethered | [22:47] |
CaZe | afaicr, ssh works fine on my laptop without changing anything. | [22:47] |
hazardous | x-via: Harmony proxy
x-wap-profile: [my device id] and appears to proxy/cache all http traffic in some way | [22:47] |

toddf | so I asked misc@openbsd.org but I'll ask here too. anybody with hardware recommendations that involve small, portable, runs openbsd, VoIP possible via mic + headphones, wifi supported, and has decent wifi .. would be awesome. (used is fine, VoIP and xterms don't require tons of cpu) | [23:23] |
CaZe | You also asked in #openbsd and #metabug, too. | [23:30] |
toddf | indeed ;-) I figured there was some overlap but also enough different eyes to perhaps get more pointers | [23:34] |
