billing, wee... ugh Well, my billing went through "that time of the month again" lol Do any of you host your own e-mail? yes i do me too me too well - I mean, at a machine at arp not at home :) i do too Me also phlux - why the question? Whoops I'm just wondering what people do for redundancy Is there some sort of guide for setting up backup mail servers? For me, my ARP VPS is the backup MX phlux: lower preference MX as relay host there are some guides out there.. it's pretty simple with postfix aye, I use postfix myself I'll look into it more. Thanks. Glad it can be done easily np backup MXes are not needed these days unless your primary is down for > 5 days, which is unlikely... indeed Why is that? mail servers retry if you have a temporary outage you won't be losing any mail indeed not like the old days where UUCP might happen once a day. :) or you needed a backup mx because you couldn't have split-horizon DNS Nice in fact, if you have a backup mx, you'll very likely just get tons of spam there. most spammers use the backup mx figuring it'll be configured more openly I even wrote a spamtrap system using that was called clever by my fellow spam fighters hah i have a backup MX it has the same configuration for postscreen and RBLs about half my incoming traffic was diverted to the backup mx :) i barely get spam I use mailroute.info now I do no local spamfighting any more though i only use this address for mailing lists, so the spam I get is through those mailing lists mailroute is interesting so have any of you seen the 10th kingdom? I watched a half an episode of that, and stopped didn't even remember that's what it was called, but the googles helped me yeah I don't like it either but my wife does and I just noticed a huge plot hole now she's all mad at me "WHY DO YOU ALWAYS OVER-ANALYZE SHIT?" heh "let me think about that for a moment..." :) that would mean the couch for him tonight ;) damn that would've been a great answer..
