sorresseando most bsd people actually run sh as default? I was going to learn it if it's the usual, but I'm not seeing much about PS1 variables like you'd get with bash.
I want to learn sysadmin bsd stuff, so I was trying to do the norm. I miss my working dir being shown though.
[11:24]
........ (idle for 39mn)
toddftry ksh (on OpenBSD), I use it over bash now [12:03]
mike-burnsI use zsh for my user accounts. Boring minimalist systems just get sh or ksh though. [12:04]
sorresseanheh nods, thanks.
I want to become fluent with whatever the basic install gives you in case I can't go install my own shell
[12:08]
mike-burnsYou can set $PS1 in sh. [12:10]
sorresseanYou can, but it's not using dynamic vars. the .shrc does like `whoami` etc. Not really a way to append the working dir to that.
apparently tcsh was already installed though. not sure if that was an arpnetworks deal or if that's freebsd.
does that come preinstalled on openbsd as well?
[12:12]
mike-burnshttp://bit.ly/10qsbpV - some docs for you, from FreeBSD. [12:14]

sorresseanmike-burns: yeah, I seen that. it shows nothing else gets installed by default, but I have tcsh. I guess it's one of the arpnetworks ports.
regardless, I'll use csh since it's what I have.
[12:21]
mike-burnstcsh isn't even in the ports tree. Pretty sure it's default. [12:22]
twobithackertcsh is in FreeBSD's base install [12:30]
nestash is hardcore, use tcsh/csh its a part of the base system, as twobithacker has stated [12:36]
...... (idle for 27mn)
up_the_ironssorressean: bash and zsh are the most common these days
i use bash
[13:03]
plettsorressean: I'm a Linux person rather than BSD and have always used bash. I've had to maintain (t)csh scripts though, and hated them. I would recommend bash or zsh instead if you don't have a pressing need to use csh [13:13]
pjsI love tcsh.. but recently switched to bash after a decade+ on tcsh. Mainly because most new tools are designed with bash. In my case, virtualenv and fabric had issues with tcsh. [13:20]
