I can keep going with dev then and when I need to scale I can grab up some more cores. I guess my final question is I'm trying to pull as much speed out of this as I can. I'm compiling key ports well, everything now with gcc4.8 with -march=native to allow for faster speeds, have people recompiled the bsd kernel to closely match the host hardware?

Well, presently, it's accounting for most of my network traffic
but I guess I could divert temporarily
phlux: reboot is quick, provisioning of powerups happens in the 'to take effect next time vps is powered off and started' scene, so you can choose when to activate your powerup, power to the people/vps!
only concern I'm assuming I'll run into is storage. but I think I might be able to configure something to backup logs and stuff to amazon s3
encrypt plus backup. I'll just have to write something.

yeah, if you're logged out, you can see the home page
but once you try to log in, things are broken
facebook often breaks for groups of users randal
so even if you have issue logging in someone else may be fine
same with pages loading slow btw
they do some kind of load balancing magic
but i think it's kind of complicated
like trying to group people who are friends with other to show news feeds quicker
