up_the_irons ma up_the_irons: bah milki: humbug ***: heavysixer has quit IRC (Quit: heavysixer) phlux: Ok guys, I need to wirelessly transmit audio from my computer running mpd to speakers throughout the entire house (3BR, dining room, and living room)
any ideas? RandalSchwartz: Sonos devices do that phlux: yeah but there's got to be a less expensive way RandalSchwartz: ahh you didn't say you wanted a half-assed solution. :) phlux: like, can't I just output from my computer to a wireless receiver, and output from the receiver to speakers? RandalSchwartz: that's essentially what sonos is phlux: well, it's not really a half-assed solution when Sonos does about 3times as much as what I'm looking for
I literally just want to run mpd, as I can already manage the media through my phone, computer, or any other device I might have handy RandalSchwartz: you might be able to get away with arduinos and a bit of programming
run a vlc server and client for streaming and distribution phlux: I guess I'm not really understanding why that's necessary
I basically want to go computer -> some device that sends the sound to wireless speakers -> speakers
That has to be possible for less than $2k ***: E1ven has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 264 seconds) mercutio: why not just run a rca bale?
cable?
and use normal digital sp-dif
the wireless speakers prob have some in built wireless sender/receiver thing using 2.4 ghz messing with wifi phlux: because I'm moving into base housing, and I don't want to drill holes in the ceilings, or have wires all over the place mercutio: oh
umm
you can get amps that can pull some from other places
although probably using that horrible media streaming protocol
