what's that shell / terminal that is good for flakey connections?  I wonder if it would help customers experiencing high latency in the shell simply b/c of distance (customers in brazil have like 190ms latency)

I haven't tried anything really - the same gear (pfSense router, network switches, computers) all worked just fine before the move on a much faster connection, and before that, a slower connection, so there really shouldn't be any configuration problems :/
And the latency starts at the first hop beyond the modem
it's probably the way they're shaping you
like my dsl connection lags something chronic if uploading
although i was looking through the config dump
and i saw something about qos set to disabled, and set it to enabled, and it reduced from like 800 msec to 200 msec

if you are using a mouse in a vps you're going to want the usb tablet cmdline option to kvm
-usb -usbdevice tablet
