woo, i have our new blades getting their IPMI IP from DHCP static leases; a monitor / kb has never physically touched those servers and yet they are ready to sell; bitchen... (before, I would hook up a mon / kb just to set up IPMI for the first time) sweet so it does work. nixbag: yeah, i had to do some footwork on setting up a good dhcp server (there are several options), but now that appears to be complete and working $ echo "mpg123 Two_Minutes_to_Midnight.mp3" | at 2358 lol put that on twitter so i can retweet it you should just tweet it, i have no twitter :) hah are the rest of us so bad you can't bear looking? u guys are just text and colors i'm writing Knowledge Base articles on our new backup services; i have to do something to keep me sane knowledge is always good... I didn't know there was a backup service it's new i am still awake somehow.. nixbag: nice! nixbag: it is because you woke up at 1:30pm, only 30 minutes before me probably that. im just not getting sleepy so when do u leave for missouri? plus, i just saw a slomo of paula deen and oprah with a scary soundtrack in the background. we leave wednesday at like 3am ah why am i still working at almost 4:30am... you should takeacoffee break. lol no initial draft -- http://support.arpnetworks.com/kb/main/do-you-provide-backup-services comments welcome (and the service is available to order) LT: ^^ about our new backup services looks good to me. tnx 3you need a commercial. splitz up_the_irons: you may want to update the 'What level of support can I expect from your support staff for my VPS?' page to include a reference to backups up_the_irons: "However, see the next section" --> "If you're looking for a managed backup service/solution, see the next section." up_the_irons: "Backup storage space is provided as a limited / chroot shell account, on a separate server, with many standard archiving / backup tools available, such as the following,". 1) Lots of slashes, maybe change the "archiving / backup tools" to "archival and backup tools". 2), End that line with a colon: (Granted, #2 is a matter of taste, but it's how I was raised/taught) up_the_irons: Also, just curious what the managed monitoring of backups is, or what it entails? up_the_irons: I would also like to see more information on why I would choose ARP's backup services: e.g. is it reliable, do I save on bandwidth costs, is it fast, etc up_the_irons: As regards billing... Will you be just looking at the quotas at the end of the month? (allowing users to delete everything on the day before) Or will you be doing it Amazon-style, fully metered, (or at least measured every day) ? Final question - I assume there will be an addition to the portal for quota usage? Would be cool too if quota usage was graphed in Cactus alongside bandwidth. (or is it Cacti? eff grammar) for now just ssh to your backup account and type 'du -h .' ;-) do you guys offer any SSDs on dedi? toddf: I know the manual way to do it :P up_the_irons asked for feedback, and that's what I was giving. If "the manual way" to do everything was the only way, I would be responsible for setting up my own VPS just for backups... but ARP wants to make life easier (and cheaper) hi woet toddf: actually the 'quota' command works well in the backup account, so you would just use that brycec: great points, thanks brycec: i will try to answer those questions in the next draft :) Woet: we could get an SSD in a dedi, yeah; what size are you looking for?
