[00:12] -rw------- 1 root root 7168 2013-02-26 00:04 aquota.user [00:13] i actually can't get this working within the chroot (complains it can't read that file). yet /usr/bin/quota is not suid root or anything... hhmmmm HRMMMMM.... Or just stand there, crushing it to pieces in your fists? [15:30] out of curiosity, are any of you using linux mint? [15:31] I've used Linux while eating a mint... does that count? :P [15:31] Also I run Cinnamon, which is Mint's default WM [15:31] I'm a Gentoo user, but I'm considering using something simpler and easier to maintain just because I've got a lot going on [15:31] up_the_irons: just curious, whis this netblock registered out of the Philippines? 206.162.240.0/20 Country code: PH as per whois.bgpmon.net [15:33] phlux: I can sympathize. Former Gentoo user here. I've found Arch to be a nice step up from Gentoo - rolling release, bleeding edge, but at the same time, most everything is packaged and works well. [15:33] And I run Debian for my Linux servers, so I guess that counts as a +1 for Mint [15:37] I gave Arch a shot before Gentoo, actually. [15:37] Mint *does* have a rolling release (their Debian version) [15:38] It's definitely nothing against Gentoo or Arch [15:43] I installed it as our desktop OS since my wife would have no clue how to navigate Gentoo [15:44] but I kind of fell in love with the software manager and whatnot...that stuff is neat. [15:44] It's like an app store, but for Linux! [15:44] Now that I'm 24, I couldn't care less about "elitist" Linux users how how 1337 I look running a certain version of Linux anyhow [15:45] heh Ubuntu did that too - just sayin' [16:10] Yeah, but Ubuntu also started using Unity and advertising for Amazon in their OS [16:10] Not a fan of that :\ [16:11] If you say so... I haven't touched it since Gutsy Gibbon. [16:11] (j/k - I've read about that stuff, and my Chromebook runs 11.04 I think) [16:16] yeah [16:16] My wife ran Ubuntu when they added that crap [16:16] Immediately gave her a Linux Mint disc [16:16] She loved it, so I threw it on the desktop [16:19] Guess that's solved then. She already uses and loves Mint, so go for it. One fewer distro to support [16:20] And if it's Apt, then you can run apticron for easy email notification of updates [16:23] For real? [16:23] Apticron? [16:23] * phlux reads into this [16:23] apticron is awesome, I use it on my servers [16:23] Yes... [16:23] staticsafe: What're you running locally? [16:23] brycec: That sounds awesome, actually. [16:24] Daily check for updates and emails me a list of packages and the changelog [16:24] I can't stand sorting through elogv for Gentoo's updates :| [16:24] phlux: Gentoo and Windows 7 on the desktop, openSUSE on the laptop [16:24] (and no email if no updates) [16:26] Gentoo works like a charm and maintenance isn't even bothersome [16:26] i even breezed through the recent udev update [16:28] yeah i know [16:28] it's not that much [16:28] but i just don't have the time for it these days [16:28] building everything from source [16:28] i'm only on a 2.5ghz amd64 [16:29] oh [16:29] Nothing beats bringing up a brand new server, complete with basic config, in 10 minutes. And switching to Debian gave that to me, along with really, really painless updates. [16:29] ^ [16:30] I still prefer my servers FreeBSD, although I have some Debian ones too [16:30] I'd just really hate to install Mint and end up losing what little "know-how" I have :P [16:31] heh BSD is great for that too [16:32] i don't really like Mint tbh [16:32] using a derivative of a derivative is just.. [16:33] They have a Debian-based version for that [16:33] I thought Mint was a derivative of Debian (a pure) [16:33] Nope, Ubuntu-based by default [16:33] but there is Linux Mint Debian [16:34] ah. I think they switched [16:34] I like Xubuntu [16:34] (I think I remember reading that) [16:34] the new openSUSE is shaping up to be awesome too [17:29] brycec: i ate the food [17:31] mnathani: it's not the /20, but like i think 206.162.240.0/28 [17:31] or /27 [17:31] customer in PH [17:34] i agree that Debian / Ubuntu give painless updates [18:06] *** CaZe has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [18:06] *** CaZe` has joined #arpnetworks [18:07] *** CaZe` is now known as CaZe [18:38] I think with laptops, painless updates are important [18:38] So I think I'm going to move it over to Linux Mint Debian [18:39] but the desktop will run Gentoo damnit!
