***: CaZe` is now known as CaZe up_the_irons: anyone know how the 'quota' command can read aquota.user as a regular user, when its perms are 600?
-rw------- 1 root root 7168 2013-02-26 00:04 aquota.user
i actually can't get this working within the chroot (complains it can't read that file). yet /usr/bin/quota is not suid root or anything... hhmmmm HRMMMMM.... -: up_the_irons takes a break ***: CaZe has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection)

probably some device it opens or something, the file may be the persistent data that survives reboots ***: ant has joined #arpnetworks up_the_irons: yeah i was looking at the strace, trying to figure it out toddf: maybe acl's over-ride unixy perms? up_the_irons: hmm... maybe
anyway, i'll figure it out tomorrow (err.. later today) ***: dzup has joined #arpnetworks

Or just stand there, crushing it to pieces in your fists? phlux: out of curiosity, are any of you using linux mint? brycec: I've used Linux while eating a mint... does that count? :P
Also I run Cinnamon, which is Mint's default WM phlux: I'm a Gentoo user, but I'm considering using something simpler and easier to maintain just because I've got a lot going on mnathani: up_the_irons: just curious, whis this netblock registered out of the Philippines? 206.162.240.0/20 Country code: PH as per whois.bgpmon.net brycec: phlux: I can sympathize. Former Gentoo user here. I've found Arch to be a nice step up from Gentoo - rolling release, bleeding edge, but at the same time, most everything is packaged and works well.
And I run Debian for my Linux servers, so I guess that counts as a +1 for Mint phlux: I gave Arch a shot before Gentoo, actually.
Mint *does* have a rolling release (their Debian version)
It's definitely nothing against Gentoo or Arch
I installed it as our desktop OS since my wife would have no clue how to navigate Gentoo
but I kind of fell in love with the software manager and whatnot...that stuff is neat.
It's like an app store, but for Linux!
Now that I'm 24, I couldn't care less about "elitist" Linux users how how 1337 I look running a certain version of Linux anyhow brycec: heh Ubuntu did that too - just sayin' phlux: Yeah, but Ubuntu also started using Unity and advertising for Amazon in their OS
Not a fan of that :[16:11] <brycec> If you say so... I haven't touched it since Gutsy Gibbon. brycec: (j/k - I've read about that stuff, and my Chromebook runs 11.04 I think) phlux: yeah
My wife ran Ubuntu when they added that crap
Immediately gave her a Linux Mint disc
She loved it, so I threw it on the desktop brycec: Guess that's solved then. She already uses and loves Mint, so go for it. One fewer distro to support
And if it's Apt, then you can run apticron for easy email notification of updates phlux: For real?
Apticron? -: phlux reads into this staticsafe: apticron is awesome, I use it on my servers brycec: Yes... <I can't tell if you're excited, disbelieving, etc> phlux: staticsafe: What're you running locally?
brycec: That sounds awesome, actually. brycec: Daily check for updates and emails me a list of packages and the changelog phlux: I can't stand sorting through elogv for Gentoo's updates :| staticsafe: phlux: Gentoo and Windows 7 on the desktop, openSUSE on the laptop brycec: (and no email if no updates) staticsafe: Gentoo works like a charm and maintenance isn't even bothersome
i even breezed through the recent udev update phlux: yeah i know
it's not that much
but i just don't have the time for it these days
building everything from source
i'm only on a 2.5ghz amd64 staticsafe: oh brycec: Nothing beats bringing up a brand new server, complete with basic config, in 10 minutes. And switching to Debian gave that to me, along with really, really painless updates. staticsafe: ^ phlux: I still prefer my servers FreeBSD, although I have some Debian ones too
I'd just really hate to install Mint and end up losing what little "know-how" I have :P brycec: heh BSD is great for that too staticsafe: i don't really like Mint tbh
using a derivative of a derivative is just.. phlux: They have a Debian-based version for that brycec: I thought Mint was a derivative of Debian (a pure) phlux: Nope, Ubuntu-based by default
but there is Linux Mint Debian brycec: ah. I think they switched staticsafe: I like Xubuntu brycec: (I think I remember reading that) staticsafe: the new openSUSE is shaping up to be awesome too up_the_irons: brycec: i ate the food
mnathani: it's not the /20, but like i think 206.162.240.0/28

So I think I'm going to move it over to Linux Mint Debian
