I'll never forget the first time I compiled a kernel. 1994. somehow I thought ppp was just enabled, didn't think it was under networking, gutted a lot of needless crap, and was surprised ppp didn't work on reboot ;-)

I can reach my vps'en via v4 but not via v6 (coming from a he.net tunnel)
oh bother, maybe its my tunnel host or something, I can't even ping6 google from home over the he.net tunnel
looks like chroot home dirs (on a backup server) with "root-like" ability to preserve permissions, etc...  is not gonna be feasible (i think i know how it *could* work, but is more trouble than it is worth)
so saving file attributes will simply require tar, rdiff-backup, etc...
