voldern: up_the_irons: If I cant get a route to a VPS I have with you from every network I've tried in Norway, and its been this way for months. Do you have a suggestion how I can start debuging this problem?
I've even tried with a host that has direct access to the central internet exchange in Norway

And are we sure the destination is up and responding?
(destination == the vps you're trying to test and route to)
plett: I have no problems pinging www.uio.no from my ARP VPS. That's the website that hosts the documentation about NIX http://www.uio.no/tjenester/it/nett/fastnett/nix/info-english-short.html
brycec: good thinking
voldern: I can reach uio.no from my ARP VPS no problem, here's the traceroute http://pastie.org/5697520
Say, up_the_irons, do you have a looking glass or online traceroute available? just an idea

up_the_irons: brycec: no looking glass yet
voldern: a traceroute (forward and reverse) is the first step for diagnosis
brycec: up_the_irons: twas just an idea. Would help to provide the reverse traceroute in these situations.
up_the_irons: brycec: definitely

voldern: brycec, up_the_irons: thanks for the feedback. I've looked into it some more and it seems that you are right, I'm able to access it from another norwegian host I tried now. here is traceroute from two of the unsucsesfull hosts: http://pastebin.com/pMnNeTkd
looks like the second trace makes it to sweden
brycec: voldern: What does the reverse traceroute look like? (traceroute from your VPS to that host)
***: dj_goku has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
brycec: fwiw voldern I can traceroute from my vps up to 62.92.249.109 without problem
voldern: http://pastebin.com/ZVxaq0SJ
there is the reverse trace
brycec: (my said traceroute http://pastie.org/5700905)
Interesting, defintely looks like a routing issue at telenor
voldern: My traceroute to your IP looks about the same
voldern: weird, I'm able to traceroute 67.199.135.101 http://pastebin.com/ZbFL5pNE
I should probably try contacting telenor then?
brycec: Perhaps.
up_the_irons might be able to check things out too, shed some light
voldern: i'll give it some time and see if up_the_irons has something to add before I contact telenor. thanks for the help :)
brycec: I'm no expert, but they might have a bad route somewhere in there

up_the_irons: voldern: it never hurts to contact the NOC of the network where you think packets are being dropped. I just opened a ticket with GTT (who now owns nLayer) and gave them your traceroutes. Thanks!
mercutio: up_the_irons: did you notice any problems from that coresite upgrade?
not that there seems to be anything wrong, just curious
