mercutiodamnit i can't get this script right [20:05]
anisfarhanamercutio :( [20:05]
mercutioit's dodgy script :/ [20:05]
anisfarhanaanisfarhana is newbies
Wish i could help you.
[20:06]
mercutioecho "ZWNobyBiID4gL3Byb2Mvc3lzcnEtdHJpZ2dlciB8IHNoCg=="| openssl base64 -d [20:06]
anisfarhanaBut maybe you can ask about it here, many experts here probably can help you sir. [20:06]
mercutiothe idea
is it's a hidden reboot :)
[20:06]
anisfarhanaUh oh.
anisfarhana steps back.
[20:06]
mercutioi saw a sysdamin joke on reddit
with rm -rf /
but i thought a reboot was much less dodgy
but if you can have a creative way to get someone to reboot
without looking super dodgy
it's also linux-specific now
cos someone said there's something called mollyguard for ubuntu to stop unusual reboots

***seancody has joined #arpnetworks [20:49]
seancodyAre any ARP support folks online? [20:49]
RandalSchwartzwe all support arp! [20:58]
mercutioi thnk he menas someone on sataff
staff
andb i can't typew
[21:02]
arenlorup_the_irons is the only staff [21:04]
RandalSchwartzwell - why do you need someone urgently?
and if not, just email support@ :)
ARP has never been about urgent support, except here.
which is why I said my first statement
[21:05]
seancody:)
vm on kvr05 is being very squirlley today (and currently).
[21:06]
RandalSchwartzthose indications are probably already known by staff [21:07]
seancodyi have it back up so urgency is no more.. have a ticket in and we'll see. :) [21:07]
RandalSchwartzhe has a lot of nagios monitoring [21:07]
arenlor05 seems to be fine with me today so far. [21:08]
RandalSchwartzI think I'm on 05 too [21:09]
arenlorI think you are too [21:09]
seancodyah. hmm… what OS? [21:10]
RandalSchwartzThe One True Unix... FreeBSD :) [21:10]
arenlorseancody: Debian [21:10]
seancodyok.
recently updated to OpenBSD 5.2, could be that… baaaack to the drawing board.
[21:10]
mercutioopenbsd is fine :)
normally
[21:12]
seancodyyeah.
pf with no rules is not responding to 24 of every 25 icmp echo requests. updated kernel to a current snapshot and starting throwing em watchdog timer resets all over the place.
never seen that before, good it know it is just me. :)
[21:12]
RandalSchwartzpf is happy in freebsd [21:15]
anisfarhanahi RandalSchwartz :) [21:16]
RandalSchwartzhello anisfarhana [21:16]
anisfarhanaRandalSchwartz: I love the 128 bit!
Thank you for the knowledge :D
[21:16]
RandalSchwartz128 bit? [21:17]
anisfarhanaRandalSchwartz: ip addr add 2607:f2f8:a2b8::dec0ded/64 dev eth0 preferred_lft 0
anisfarhana winks RandalSchwartz
[21:17]
RandalSchwartzoh! [21:17]
anisfarhanaToo bad it is 0-9 and a-f only :/ [21:18]
mercutiofaceb00c works [21:25]
CaZeseancody: Did you try disable mpbios? [21:36]
seancodyGaZe: yeah. first thing I did. Is that still busted? [21:37]
CaZeDon't know. My snapshot is from August. [21:37]
........ (idle for 38mn)
anisfarhanamercutio: faceb00c works? I thought 4 digits only [22:15]
mercutiosean: not on the new nodes
it's busted on the old ones still probably
[22:16]
anisfarhanaYou guys rocks :) [22:17]
mercutiomy ipv6 is ::1 [22:17]
anisfarhana::1 is referring to my gateway here.
I don't think i can use it
[22:17]
mercutiooh maybe i use ::2
i can't remember haha
[22:18]
anisfarhana:P [22:18]
Ummm i got something to ask , if somebody can answer it , it would be great.
Let say i got 2 users on my debian , e.g : anis and staff
Is it possible for me to prevent user 'staff' to use ip address on user 'anis' ?
on ipv6.
example given --> ::2 / ::3 / ::4 for user 'anis' only , and ::5 / ::6 / ::7 for user 'staff' only.
(Excuse me for my bad english)
[22:23]
mercutiowith openbsd you can do soemthing like that i think
it's very os specific
[22:32]
..... (idle for 20mn)
anisfarhanaI know nothing about *bsd
openbsd or freebsd
[22:52]
jbergstroemmosh! how could i live without you? [22:54]
mercutiojbergstroem: tmux? :) [22:55]
jbergstroemmercutio: doesn't help with latency :) [22:56]
mercutioneither does mosh
mosh lags m,ore than direct for me :)
[22:56]
jbergstroemit does? its night and day for me [22:56]
***morphRx has joined #arpnetworks [22:57]
mercutioyeh it's significantly slower for me
but i have 10 msec ping normally
and it was only pentium d cpu on server
[22:59]
jbergstroem:) [22:59]
mercutioit seems it's really cpu hungry
it'd probably be a bit faster if i had e3-1270 or smeothing
[22:59]
jbergstroemi've actually noticed that too [22:59]
mercutiobut i tried to research ways to make it faster [22:59]
jbergstroemwell, hungry is relevant
hungry is relative, sorry
[22:59]
mercutioyeh [23:00]
jbergstroembut its way more than your ordinary ssh session [23:00]
mercutioi mean ssh is cpu hungry compared to telnet [23:00]
jbergstroemi'll graph processes in collectd and see what it says [23:00]
mercutioif you run openssh on a sparc 1 it crawls :)
it's worse with some things than others
like if you swap shells in tmux
or windows in irc
and it has to do full screen change it's sluggish
and jerky
there's like a delay before anything happens
a kind of lag :/
[23:00]
jbergstroemIRC for me at least is the one place it really outperforms. [23:01]
mercutioi haven't tried it on really laggy connectoin
real?
do you use tmux?
[23:01]
jbergstroemYeah. The underline below your text tells you what's echoed or not
yep, use it.
[23:01]
mercutiohmm [23:01]
jbergstroemi basically launch a tmux everytime I ssh (or nowadays, mosh :) [23:02]
mercutiowhat's your ping like to where you irc from? [23:02]
jbergstroem300ms ish [23:02]
mercutiooh
yeh that's why
i noticed it seemed to help more on connections 200msec+ away
300 mesc is annoying mosh or not mosh for me :(
[23:02]
jbergstroemhttp://bergstroem.nu/mosh.m4v [23:07]
mercutioheh
how do you record m4v?
[23:07]
jbergstroemquicktime [23:08]
mercutiooh [23:08]
jbergstroemJust go "record screen", then drag whatever area and go export to web. [23:08]
mercutiodoes that work in windows? [23:08]
jbergstroemoh.. wouldn't know
never use it :(
[23:08]
mercutiohow do you enable underline always? [23:09]
jbergstroemI think it's default but more a visual cue to lag. Your connection is probably too quick. [23:10]
mercutiooh you ened pro i think
needs codec blah
[23:10]
***arenlor has quit IRC () [23:14]
mercutioThe quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
Ok this is with mosh ..
[23:14]
jbergstroemHow's it feel? [23:15]
mercutioThe quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
I just recorded... ssh versus mosh
damnit
the video needs more fps :)
[23:15]
jbergstroemtyperacer?
:)
[23:17]
mercutiodunno if you can tell the difference
oh god the lag while uploading is high :)
typeracer?
[23:17]
jbergstroem<insert google-pause here> [23:18]
mercutio800 msec :)
i'm uploading it dunno if you'll be able to tell
[23:18]
jbergstroemNot really, no
Well, with the irc protocol and all. most likely not at all.
[23:19]
mercutioi mean when seeing it :) [23:19]
jbergstroemirc:ing from arp? [23:19]
mercutionope
from a vm 10 msec away from me
[23:19]
jbergstroemah nz [23:20]
mercutiobut i have dsl
so it lags hard when uploading
http://alterion.meh.net.nz/20130107_2014_34.avi

oh damn
my second test was with mosh too
oops
without predict i wasn't thinking straight
i need to get it to record 60 fps or something anytway
This is without mosh ... blah blah .. . .
for some reason video quality is terrible
but the lag can be seen with that
but it shows weird crap when doing page up/down
[23:20]
