i need to justify buying one even though they're only $25 staticsafe: 35
but depends, i use it for dnsmasq for my local network
you can use it for hardware hacking as well phlux: Raspberry Pi
An ARM GNU/Linux box for $25. Take a byte!
directly from the website dzup: phlux, where at? phlux: http://www.raspberrypi.org/ staticsafe: http://www.newark.com/raspberry-pi/raspbrry-modb-512m/model-b-assembled-board-only/dp/43W5302 phlux: weird
i don't think i have a use for one
neat concept though

now is a good time to get my external hd shared wirelessly ***: dominicl has joined #arpnetworks dominicl: Hello. Are there any staff online please?
I'm not sure how formal this IRC is :P
so anyhow..staff? staticsafe: up_the_irons is the only staff
might want to file a ticket dominicl: I filed a ticket. How long does it usually take for a reply?
staticsafe: are you a user of arpnetworks then? staticsafe: I am dominicl: staticsafe: can you vouch for their services? are they easy to work with in terms of price? what service do you have?
staticsafe: dedi or vps? staticsafe: dominicl: I have a VPS dominicl: staticsafe : ah ok, thinking of getting a dedi from these guys if they reply to my sales question :p staticsafe: ah cool
dominicl: tis the weekend, might have to wait a bit dominicl: staticsafe - are they usually quick? staticsafe: dominicl: i haven't had a need to file a support ticket yet ;) dominicl: wow nice
hopefully soon :p ***: cmeiklejohn has joined #arpnetworks dominicl: up_the_irons phlux: any of you ever used tinyproxy? ***: cmeiklejohn has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 256 seconds) jdoe: nope... just squid, privoxy, polipo and ziproxy.
I should set that up again, privoxy/polipo/ziproxy made mobile browsing suck a lot less. ***: scottschecter has quit IRC (Quit: WeeChat 0.3.9.2)

niner is now known as wblum toddf: dominicl: so you know, arpnetworks is not staffed 24/7 .. they permit you to automatically reset your own system, have serial console, video console, etc from remote available. so unless something majorly goes south, things are generally not needing them to spend time, which in turn factors into the low cost they charge for the service. it is a tradeoff. those of us that are happy are quite happy with the tradeoff. ***: dominicl has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 265 seconds)

cmeiklejohn has quit IRC (Quit: Computer has gone to sleep.) phlux: does anyone use anything like darkstat, but will give you an actual amount of bandwidth used over a period of time?
darkstat shows min KB/s, avg, and max, but not the total mercutio: mrtg
bwd
http://bandwidthd.sourceforge.net/
bandwidthd tells total
mrtg/cacti show average etc
but you can work out total phlux: mercutio: thanks ***: scottschecter has joined #arpnetworks
cmeiklejohn has joined #arpnetworks phlux: interesting
doesn't look like they do *nix stuff anymore
bah, found it
sourceforge is just being dumb gluffis: probably :D phlux: wtf
idk what's using so much bandwidth on my arp vps, but it's already used 16MB in a matter of minutes.. gluffis: trafshow, iptraf and such tools will give you a realtime view of network traffic phlux: thanks gluffis: tcpdump is a 'bit' less easy to use ;) phlux: i wonder if it has to do with this tinyproxy i've setup..
i'm the only one that can connect to it afaik gluffis: well, iptraf will tell you ports as well phlux: i don't see iptraf in ports anywhere gluffis: openbsd ? phlux: FreeBSD gluffis: ok... might be something similar then... haven't used Freebsd for a couple of years now
trafshow might be availible phlux: yeah, it is
and it shows something like ip,2084
so i'm assuming 2084 is the port
but i have no clue what it is being used for gluffis: yes
lsof might help
linux got netstat -anp to show program phlux: d'oh
i'm dumb
2084 is my SSH port -_- gluffis: i don't remember correct parameters for lsof to list open sockets :D
haha
:D
that should show some traffic ;) phlux: i'm going to disable this tinyproxy and see if anything changes
i don't know how i'd be using 2MB in a matter of minutes by being connected to it, but we'll see gluffis: lots of background requests
.D phlux: k, i'm going to check it again in 5 minutes ***: [Derek] has quit IRC (*.net *.split)

Mexicainvexed has joined #arpnetworks jlgaddis: phlux: if you're running a web proxy, you probably want to spend some extra time to ensure that you've got it locked down pretty well
other wise, don't be surprised when 1) arp sends you a huge bill for bandwidth overages and/or 2) the police show up at your door Mexicainvexed: why is that possible?
just curious jlgaddis: because if it's not properly secured anybody in the world could use it
