I am having a bit of a  crisis. Is there a way to shutdown my machine and restart it later? If so, how do I do that?
I just got an email saying: "Your VPS has already exceeded its bandwidth quota of 200GB.  Current
bandwidth usage is 340GB.  Please be advised that you will be billed
overage of $0.15 per GB unless you buy more bandwidth."
And I should not be using up anything like that much space. I'm running FreeBSD and squid.
Is anyone around?

Voting: of course you can always ssh, or vnc into your machine and shut it down there too
And lastly, ssh to the customer console and shutdown from there too

I'm guessing it's not properly secured... probably an open proxy being used by the world over

port-scans are a very, very common thing
and open proxies are the #1 thing they're looking for

In the simplest terms, your VPS was used by anyone that wanted to proxy their traffic
kinda surprised up_the_irons doesn't scan people.
