I am having a bit of a crisis. Is there a way to shutdown my machine and restart it later? If so, how do I do that? I just got an email saying: "Your VPS has already exceeded its bandwidth quota of 200GB.  Current bandwidth usage is 340GB.  Please be advised that you will be billed overage of $0.15 per GB unless you buy more bandwidth." And I should not be using up anything like that much space. I'm running FreeBSD and squid. Is anyone around? I am having a bit of a crisis. Is there a way to shutdown my machine and restart it later? If so, how do I do that? Hello? Anyone home at all? I'm looking for the virtual machine details. Help! Voting: log in to the portal and shut it down that way Voting: of course you can always ssh, or vnc into your machine and shut it down there too And lastly, ssh to the customer console and shutdown from there too I could not find that place on the console for quote a while. I needed to click on VPS to get to the " VM Management Server " area Voting: look below that for three buttons which I could not find until then. I finally found it. reboot, shutdown gracefully, hard shutdown brycec: are you from ARPN? nope see topic for that info (hint: only up_the_irons is from ARP) I got this email saying that I was racking up bandwith charges and all I had running was squid. I'm guessing it's not properly secured... probably an open proxy being used by the world over oh, so you think it got port scanned and then used by others, eh? yep wow, had not thought about that. Wow... port-scans are a very, very common thing and open proxies are the #1 thing they're looking for No doubt the malware world thanks you :p well, machine is down now so I should be safe until I get some help from friends. ha, good luck and secure that thing in the future guess so just leaving squid running is an invitation to malware? malware and various ne'er-do-wells use open proxies to mask their source open proxies like YOU thanks! so I was like part of a botnet all night? kinda sorta In the simplest terms, your VPS was used by anyone that wanted to proxy their traffic kinda surprised up_the_irons doesn't scan people.
