up_the_irons: jlgaddis: I read your Internet kill switch article again, but this time noticed your callsign (N9WWV). man, you were one away from "WWW" ;)
i think i'm gonna get a ham license (what is the lowest one, "Technician" ?).. i've had a GMRS one for years, now it's time to upgrade...
mercutio: dzup: i find having a dns name really helps with ipv6 :)
with linux command line you always have to quote it when using the square brackets

toddf: it depends on the app and usage. ssh vs sftp vs scp have different requirements of brackets vs not.
mercutio: ping doesn't even support ipv6
you have to use ping6
windows ping does actually
and some programsl ike iperf are weird and you have to tell them you want to use ipv6
toddf: welcome to inconsistency and job security

Shane_Elmore: Hello, I have a sales question.
jlgaddis: feel free to ask it, but if it's specific it may be better to send an email
Shane_Elmore: I am in planning for developing a Linux distribution (Gentoo-based), and I was wondering if you do discounted/sponsored servers for open source projects. I can tell more about it if needed.
I basically would need the server for planning reasons, then once the first release is out, this server being the main mirror and website.
mikeputnam: Shane_Elmore: $20/mo isn't unreasonable for an adequate VM
(in my opinion)
< $1 per day
Shane_Elmore: Right. Don't laugh at this, but, the issue is that I am 17 so I don't have unlimited money. 17 may seem young for developing a distro, but I do have a plan, just no server.
_brycec: Generally speaking Shane_Elmore, the businesses that do give a discount only do so for established open-source projects
phlux: Shane_Elmore: the best option for you would be individual investors willing to take the risk
_brycec: To be frank, fledgling 1- or 2-man projects are a dime a dozen... Businesses don't want to give away their product to something that is likely to never amount to anything or only benefits
a couple of people
jlgaddis: Shane_Elmore: you'll want to send an email in, asking about the discount
Shane_Elmore: Yeah. Not really sure of any open-source hosting that is free other than SourceForge, and I don't have anyone who would understand Linux enough interested in funding it. Thanks for the advice though.
Not saying I want it free.
milki: github?
bitbucket?
Shane_Elmore: hmm
milki: if its just code
theres plenty of free code hosting places
Shane_Elmore: It's not. It's a full-fledged linux distro.
_brycec: you can even put up binaries and github hosts webpages
Shane_Elmore: But thanks, I'll keep looking!
milki: a distro is still a bunch of text files
_brycec: And, inevitably, needs some version control ;)
milki: unless you have licensing issues
-: milki nods
_brycec: I do love me some Github
Shane_Elmore: I guess I'll use Github if I don't find anything.
Bye.
***: Shane_Elmore has quit IRC (Quit: Page closed)
milki: your welcome -.-
andol: Yepp, yet another distro is just what the world needs :)
_brycec: lol
jlgaddis: indeed
and, at 17, i'm sure he has tons of experience rolling one up
milki: didnt you hear, they teach those things in middle school now

Lefty: aw, don't be too hard on the kid
phlux: have you guys ever used mosh?
Lefty: yes, mosh rules
phlux: i never realized there was a delay between me and my servers
now i know
the underlining is retarded, but oh well
Lefty: I use it even on low-latency links to do roaming between networks
phlux: it does use a lot of CPU though
it's using more than firefox and thunderbird atm
