uname_-a: i just replied to your ticket, with some more info.  VNC is working fine, it's at the login prompt.  VPS is running.

just submit your SSH keys within the Portal (they are applied instantly), and you can "ssh <user>@console.cust.arpnetworks.com" and then hit "c" (console)

uname_-a: soft shutdown sends an acpi signal (won't work on openbsd, hence the two warnings abouts "your OS must respond to ACPI signal"), hard shutdown just "cuts the power" basically, and boot starts it ("power on")
so, via serial, i should hard halt, then do a "boot" 60 secs after?
then watch my vnc, which will display the kernel coming up?
hard shutdown followed by boot, then go console, activate it and press a key so go get to the boot> prompt where you can type boot -s
uname_-a: so, do this: hard shutdown, wait a few seconds, then do a boot.  connect to vnc after the boot.  you'll have 15 seconds before the BIOS starts your OS.  you can do any and all boot loader magic you need at that point.

apparently I did not change the delay, this is my boot.conf, I think it is the default:
stty com0 9600
set tty com0
and I have plenty of time to press a key to get to the boot prompt
even with the annoying password to enter when activating the console
which I think is useless as you already need pubkey auth to connect to it

DaCa: that's not so much to authenticate *you* (since you're already auth via ssh), but to keep intruders out should anyone find a way to connect directly to the conserver instance.  if I didn't set a password, it would be wide open.  just never made me feel comfortable, even with private vlan, etc...
