up_the_irons: ping jpalmer: pong jpalmer: my mirror pulled 6.3 yesterday, w00t up_the_irons: I was just going to ask if I could rent 10g of storage for a few minutes, so I didn't have to transfer a tarball'd backup to my home machine. But, I've downloaded 80% of it now jpalmer: roger up_the_irons: nice. so I'll be trying your mirror tonight then. going to install 6.3 fresh, without the pmtmr edits and see if yum dumps core like it did in previous versions. jpalmer: cool up_the_irons: would you be able to give me a temporary shell account (for scp) with 10g space? I'd need it for a day. jpalmer: can i just attach 10G to your VM? oh, if that'd be easier, sure. I just figured a shell would be easier yeah, attachment is actually easier actually, hrm.. if I make a mistake in reinstalling and blow away the FS.. I'd lose the data though. while slim, I'd rather not risk it well. hold on (sorry to be fickle) jpalmer: cuz, i don't really have shell accounts anywhere jpalmer: well, actually, maybe the mirror server... I've already got most of it downloaded. I can wait till it gets to 100%, and then use that as my "oh shit" scenario. attaching the disk would be good. saves me from having to transfer several gigs back up to ARP (at 768k max theoretical upload) roger hmm hrm When will the new dedicated server options be available also will there be options to get cpanel preinstalled? I doubt there will be a cpanel option, but I won't speak for up_the_irons . no cpanel option; if you want that, just install it yourself zeshoem: they are available now, depending on the configuration. do you require more than 2 HDs? hmm should raid the VHDs for improved reliability :| jdoe: VHD? On the new dedicateds, I'm requiring a minimum of 2 HDs and that software RAID is used. We won't be offering configurations that we wouldn't use ourselves :) And, with only 1 HD, you're asking for downtime when it fails is debian (for example) even smart enough to install grub on both disks yet? (in a software mirror) zeshoem: i have two of the 3.4GHz servers online now, and it is relatively easy to add more, but I won't be announcing general availability until I get our new blade chassis online. there's quite a bit of savings using the blades vs. standalone 1Us, albeit you can't go more than 2x HDs per blade without Infiniband, FC, etc... jdoe: I would assume so, since I have a Ubuntu 10.04 system set up exactly like that that's ok though. you wanted to move to SANs anyway :P jdoe: it required like 0 skillz... you tell the installer you want to use software RAID on both disks, and it just does it all :) up_the_irons: I'm pretty sure the installer still just puts it on the first disk. jpalmer: i would do SANs if the cost / benefit is there :) at least every installer I remember does that. "hurrr do you want to install it to the mbr or partition?" can't remember what update-grub does offhand. but I know I've seen machines fail like that. (mirrored, one disk survived, but has no boot loader) jdoe: i tested the RAID after i set up the box. specifically removed the first drive and rebooted. it came back up like no big deal huh. cd $lunch jdoe: oh screw you for reminding me of that I got bitten by it in... jeez. 2007 or so. and I'm still bitter. don't mad. up_the_irons: 5.3 MB/s average from your mirror is your mirror official yet? jpalmer: well, i announced it on the list, not sure when they make it "official" well, other than me.. are you seeing traffic to it from outside your network? L) jpalmer: no, not much jpalmer: most likely, because it is not on the official mirror list yet, nobody knows of it yeah, I'm not sure how that works with any of the projects you are mirroring. maybe prod them and ask? jpalmer: i did last week, so i'll wait a bit longer. Ubuntu's mirror registration is automated, but it still says "Pending review". wth? ;) now i just need 5 friends... http://t.co/00plzpBg lol Haha. 5 friends…that's the hardest part! yup hrm, i keep forgetting to put an order in that sounds shady heh, it's for $work up_the_irons: you around? nevermind, order submitted =)
