toorop: Hello.
I'm going to buy an OpenBSD VPS, and I'd like to know if it would be possible to have it directly loaded with OpenBSD 5.1 (instead of receiving a 4.7 system I'd have to reinstall immediately...).
Would it be possible?
mike-burns: You can request a specific ISO on boot.
kraigu: ya, up_the_irons is great about that
jlgaddis: toorop: include a note about that when you submit your order and i'm sure he'll take care of it
i'm not sure if he has a 5.1 ready to go or not, but at the least he'll mount the 5.1 iso so you can install it yourself immediately
up_the_irons: toorop: i am done making OpenBSD 5.1 templates, but not in all sizes. so if you are OK with a delay (latest, sunday night), I can give you 5.1 loaded and ready to go. Otherwise, I can give you a 4.7 system now that you can upgrade on your own
toorop: I'm OK with waiting a few days, my need is nothing critical.
Thank you. :)
qbit_: guys
i get the "awesome user of the day award"
-: qbit_ just blew away /etc/passwd... and then ran pwd_mkdb
qbit_: like a pro
mike-burns: If you need a new /etc/passwd I hear LinkedIn offers theirs for free.
qbit_: lol
tooth: well done
qbit_: yeah
i haven't done something this pro in a loooong time
mike-burns: http://www.tarsnap.com/ - Lots of us use this for our backups.
kraigu: what makes me cry is I can't, because I'm Canadian and so is Colin Percival.
qbit_: oh i have a backup :P the problem is getting access to restore it :D
***: toorop has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
-: qbit_ will have to hit single user and try to restore it
mike-burns: Canadians can't use Tarsnap?
kraigu: nope
***: toorop has joined #arpnetworks
nestea: why not?
mike-burns: http://www.tarsnap.com/legal-why.html - second FAQ.
kraigu: what he said
mike-burns: That's intense.
kraigu: and the potential Canadian market, while probably sizeable, is probably an order of magnitude or two less than the rest of the world, so his attitude makes sense - improve service for people who can easily legally pay for it
but it still makes me cry
qbit_: there is always cyphertite
pretty sure you can use that in canada
kraigu: but I like to support my fellow citizens ;)
so I get by with rsyncing to a different host I control
(a local one, in fact) - so the chances of both failing catastrophically simultaneously is pretty slim, and if that does happen, I doubt I'll be in a position to care.
