qbit_: looks like it was an isolated incident (reason unknown), b/c i was unable to reproduce it and other customers were able to upgrade to 5.1 without issue.  On openbsd-misc ML, there were some that had problems, but last I read, the commit causing the issue was found (and yet, the issue doesn't appear for more ppl)

Yeah, but the grind catching funnel is kind weird.
Also, aligning the burrs takes some getting used to.

I think powered anything is simply overkill for making a single serving of coffee.
It adds to the cost, and makes repairs more expensive.

I already use distiled water for making my own seltzer, so I always just have it around.

My filtered tap water comes out at around 80 ppm.
Distilled water is 0 ppm.
qbit_: depends on the source, and the filtration.   as an example..  my well has 1050 TDS.    after my RO,  it's around 89 TDS.   after my DI canisters..  0 TDS
I've never really bothered to try and taste the difference though.

Carbonated filtered water tastes like ass compared to carbonated distilled water.

I have a distilling unit.
It works out to about $0.60 of electricity per gallon to run.
I still use filtered water though, for cooking.
I only use distilled water where I can perceive a difference.
Or if I want to avoid things like having to descale boilers.

Funny thing is, it still reads 0 ppm after a few dozen gallons on a single filter.

Still, I prefer distilled.
I only go through about 1/4 gallon per day, so the poor economics of making distilled water don't matter that much.
mine serves a dual purpose.   drinking water for the sink faucet,   drinking water for the water and ice dispenser in the fridge,  and I have six 32 gallon brute containers that I keep full.

I keep 3 barrels of fresh DI water,  and 3 barrels of slatwater mixed, circulated and temperature controlled for when I do my weekly water changes.
keeps the corals and fish happy :P
