The first talk I gave at the Boston Vim meetup was on ed.
I went through all the commands and some etymology.
My favorite is g/regexp/p - globally print lines matching a regexp. g/re/p for short.

True fact: I started re-writing ed in Haskell. Didn't finish it, and I used vim.

My first order of business on any new machine,   verify vi or vim is installed via puppet.
(ie,  my *real* first order of business,  is to setup puppet)
I remember a while back when my box was setup by up_in_irons - I had to have him setup something to make my ip match my hostname (he did something, i don't think it was a PTR). Anyone know what that was that he did?
I'm running into that w/ a different machine
it had to do w/ emails bouncing because of something w/ the ip not matching the host
that is why a PTR record came to mind, but he corrected me and said it was something else that he had to do on his end
