Any ARP support folks here? anything we can help with? if not, then email support@ best way Have a VPS that is unresponsive, and I'm locked out of the portal Tried emailing support, no response yet yeah, support is typically 24-hour turnaround locked out of portal how? Can't remember password, can't reset because email address associated with account is hosted on said VPS that would be a two mistakes. :( perhaps you'll remember to fix both of those next time. Yeah, I know. Been forever since I've had to use the portal. in the meanwhile, likely you'll have to wait a bit Okay, thought I'd check Hmm. now that you mention it, I bet my portal email points at the VPS host I should change it to my gmail addr I keep the password in 1Password though so I wouldn't be locked out by that RandalSchwartz: you can define an "alternate" email address in the Portal as well ahh... that's probably what I'll do then up_the_irons, for memory upgrade we need to reboot the vps right? wxyz: yup ok, i'll wait don't want to lost my beautiful uptime :p wxyz: what are you up to? long uptimes are like big swinging d**k contests. :) a sign of immaturity at best. I reboot often. 3:45PM up 212 days, 5:58, 1 user, load averages: 0.27, 0.23, 0.18 I think soon update 512 to 1024, Actually I need to restart bind/apache and mysql each week check out my epeen :) the real WTF there is mysql 13:45:33 up 317 days, 12:11, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 why would anyone run mysql these days? :( im small at least replace it with mariadb $ uptime 12:13:04 up 785 days, 22:11, 2 users, load average: 2.86, 2.76, 2.74 RandalSchwartz: package integration wow garry :D way to make us all look bad nice one up_the_irons :P :P LOL package integration? RandalSchwartz: don't most distros include mysql but not mariadb you have to download it etc build from source up_the_irons - it's monty's followon to mysql alot of people dont like that hassle and the maintanence that comes with it vcs - debian distros yes ah but they are trying to work that out the problem is that maria installs like it's mysql so both of them share the same paths and debian can't do that but fedora is just fine with it and there's a freebsd port already totally integrated nice nice it's also faster than mysql and has features for per-row columns essentially giving you NoSQL flexibility and it's 99.99% compatible with mysql I interviewed monty two days ago for FLOSS Weekly so my new mantra is "just say no to mysql... replace with mariadb please" ... http://twit.tv/show/floss-weekly/194 ... http://mariadb.org/ you can also get RPMS there... even though Debian upstream won't host them so it's just a matter of adding a repo Dont run debian servers of any kind unless u want the uptime I posted above (Ubuntu 9.04) ;) :P thats pretty ace tbh LOL no sort of leaks or anything thats the true test of code to run that long that's kvr02 BTW, so you guys who are on that box, enjoy that uptime ... http://kb.askmonty.org/en/spamexperts-migrating-300-servers-to-mariadb yeah and it is a true test b/c it is a real production system running VMs all day long, not an idle machine doing nothing ... http://kb.askmonty.org/en/mariadb-versus-mysql-features heh... one of the incompatibilities: Timings may be different as MariaDB is in many cases faster than MySQL. lol ill have to try it out what format does the "New DNS Record" thing expect for "IP / Name:"? It does tell me "Name has bad format, Name is not within your IP range" pyro-: it's simply the last number of the IP address (the rest is already filled in) pyro-: for IPv6, you have to add all the IPv6 zeros (and there is a checkbox that does it automatically for you) thank you up_the_irons np Did /usr/ports/x11/xorg last night on my FreeBSD shell here last night. Took a few hours, froze once, but I have the xclock running. Thanks to ARP networks. That is make install clean. hope you did that inside a tmux. :) no what is that? ignorance is bliss tmux is like screen, but better great if you would like to go away and come back ok I run screen but will check it out. yeah, I used screen for years, started tmux six months ago, and won't go back is it a unix thing? uh - you just said you're on freebsd I presume that's unix :) yes cd /usr/ports/*/tmux; make install but I didn't know which end of the server/client thing same place screen is it's a direct better replacement for screen Randal why do you prefer it? it's better ... http://www.wikivs.com/wiki/Screen_vs_tmux FWj Well screen is hard to configure. ok will check out wiki. tmux has far more config options, but most of the defaults are sane. my .tmux.rc is still only about 10 lines the first three things I install on every new freebsd box: portmaster, tmux, and zsh and then I launch my tmux session for *everything else* thanks for tips I couldn't figure out ctrl-a ctrl-a in tmux. Or maybe it was ctrl-a space. I use ^\ as my escape Sure. contrl -a \ gets me out of screen kill all windows ^\ d for me is detach I exit by going to each window and exiting that specifically then it auto exits or I just close my window at this end, and it auto-detaches tmux supports external scripting all the internal commands can be run with "tmux command..." in a shell so you can get pretty crazy I actually enjoyed watching the screen text roll by last night. So much of it so many little hitches that don't seem to matter. I noticed a lot of visits to tld .hk x.org didn't field many requests. bbl
