*CLANG!#!!!* anyone running their VM with CentOS and multiple CPUs here? Hi guys, is anyone available? It seems Ive forgotten my root pass. Ive sent an email about it two days ago and haven't been answered yet. I hadn't logged into my vps in awhile so I forgot it :\ boot your system off the DVD, and reset the password that's why the DVD is there. :) I dont want to fuck up 349 days uptime though :( too bad I really need to freebsd-update anyway though. can't you just login and sudo and fix the password? I never need my root password. But I hate messing up my uptime, maybe Ill just let it go for another week or two so it hits a year. I have it written down just in case I forgot my other password. :) I never set up sudoers more things you need to learn as a sysadmin then that's one of the first things I put on a new box portmaster first, then use that to install tmux and zsh and sudo :) and then emacs i know HOW to set up sudoers, I just feel that its not nessecary, but yes, today i would find it useful. lol. and yes, i use postmaster and zsh <3 portmaster* zsh is my fav. zsh is bash done the right way if you ask me. bash is sh done wrong. :) lol bash is just wrong period. You could be using csh hi plett long time no see its me mike, from p2pchat you used to be in the idle channel. hows it going pal? twiggz: Wow. It's been a while Yesssir it has been. I dropped by the p2pchat the other day, its gone to hell in a handbasket I think that was inevitable Yeah, I always said it would too. lol. How've you been? Not too bad. Things seem to be going okay How about you? Is Incognito still running? Lockheed? THose bots were cool. No, I've not used IRC for anything other than chatting in years Ah, I just got a divorce not to long ago. I moved from Arkansas to Indy. So Ive been pretty busy, haven't been on irc much or even online, so right now Im having trouble remembering the root pass to my arp vps Which sucks... Because i DONT want to ruin 349 days of uptime. Ahh. I can't help you there :) Yeah, Imight just let it go until I hit a year, I dont really have anything i NEED to do on it, every things running fine and all... its just a few more weeks. I was thinking of having them switch my vps to openbsd anyway soon, Im sort of bored of freebsd. I dont see MM or SPirit around anymore either plett this macbook pro is pissing me off macirssi is balls. and Xcode is to large for me to download because macports needs it if i want to run normal irssi blah comcast needs to get their asses out here, I can't stand having to steal wifi. I hate wifi period. I demand hard lines dammit. oh to hell with it, as soon as my vps hits a years uptime in a few days, I think Ill be switching it over to OpenBSD anyway. SCORE! I finally guessed my vps's root pass, phew. Ha. I really didnt want to ruin 349 days of uptime. lol. twiggz: upgrading to OpenBSD is much more important than uptime, high uptime means neglected systems, also there is only one reason to prefer Free over Open and that is ZFS, which is plain ridiculous on a VPS daca - ZFS makes fine sense on a VPS it would be *better* sense if we could get raw disk but it still has many features even if it's not raidz2 :) on a loopback filesystem on a linux host? yeah right! well - I'll write your disgust off as naiveity then I thought you were actually gonna start making sense in any event, for people watching this channel other than DaCa, ZFS makes perfect sense here, for all the *other* things ZFS provides beyond RAIDZn. even though DaCa appears to be ignorant of that. :) oh dear, who is ignorant here? whatever, I do not mind, feel free to spread more nonsense your mind is already closed. I won't bother. but a hint: "from the list of *all* of ZFS's features, remove only RAIDZ, and if there are still items left, you have the clue" well, think about this, maybe all these features can be relatively simple implemented on systems with other filesystems, which don't require massive amounts of ram to run comfortably and before you try to accuse me any further, I do run FreeBSD system with ZFS on bare metal, and NetBSD, and OpenBSD, using the best features from each what other filesystem has zfs send/recv ? as in, shipping a point-in-time delta efficiently? RandalSchwartz: who recommended you zxfer? probably the same person who uses other solutions providing similar features on non-FreeBSD? Well this was fun to watch. hrm... 768 special with 5 IPs, or 768 special with 256 more for 5$ :D (or 768 + 256 + 5 IPs for same price as the 1GB plan lol)
