Here's a tip, if you write a bash script that simply runs the program 'beep' in an infinite loop, there is no way to make it stop.
I would be QUITE happy if someone could prove me wrong and tell me how to make the damn beep stop without having to reboot.

It just leaves the beep running constantly.
Seems it's not using alsa, off to discover what else may make sound, maybe pulse.
I mean, if I needed to make an emergency system test, this would work for the beep.

anyone using rhel/centos/scientific on an arpnetworks vm?
i keep getting python/glibc errors at random points in the install
(usually after formatting the disk!)

they're using rfc1918 space for their customers now, which is mostly okay, but they're single homed and doing nat
but just signed a 300 mbps commit w/ level 3 so i've got to make them multihomed

they're at ~1500 customers now, so 75% of the /21 would be used up immediately if we gave 'em all a public ip
my thinking, though, is to continue to assign rfc1918 addresses except for people who specifically want a public ip

right, we've already got the ASN though, and we *need* PI space to multihome.  that's our big argument.

up_the_irons: hey, i have an idea for you for an add-on "feature"... storage space outside of the vps (e.g. on another host), accessible by ftp, sftp, or whatever
e.g. $x GB i can sftp files to for safe handling instead of copying them to $home or wherever.  in the event i need to restore, i can retrieve them much quicker than i can scp'ing them from a box at $home on a 512k uplink.

According to he.net there are/were only 19M IPs left to APnic, and that's where a LOT of the population growth (both technical and human) is occurring, so likely gone soon if not already.
