xmonad++ Will this syntax from PW(8) man change my username from mango to galaxy? pw usermod mango -n galaxy pw usermod mango -n galaxy at root prompt? try it and find out? =) Fear of lockout! ifthen: there's plenty of folks here who run freebsd, but you might get a quicker response by asking in #freebsd. Google doesn't tell me about this command. People are using vi to modify the file which is ok Just wondered how people here did it. ifthen: looks like yes. i haven't used freebsd in ~12 years though, so grain of salt thanks gamarco and jlgaddis. Does a mistake look hazardous to you? yeah, i've done it before just manually editing files but never using pw. ssh in, become root, change the username, leave that ssh session open, try to ssh in using the new username. worst case, if it doesn't work, run `pw` again to change it back. if it doesn't work, maybe running pw again won't do anything =) true hmmmmm Well I guess I'll have to take some chances. that's the spirit! I saw another simple command line command with a pipe in it but I didn't understand the syntax. heh thanks jlgaddis I did get my passwords changed so on to username. bbl good luck =) I'll let you know. bye hi jpalmer
