DDevine - slashdotting will try to set up lots of normal SYN/ACK initial connections to your port 80.  The normal queuing mechanism of the kernel handles those just fine, although your CPU will be overwhelmed and fail many of the connections.
DDoS uses tricks that the network stack can't deal with easily, and at a *far* greater rate than even slashdotting will generate.

Would have been nicer to go from creole to markdown directly... But RandalSchwartz hasn't written a Perl script for that yet.

I have ipv4_addrs_em0=174.136.96.179-180/29 in my rc.conf
how do I get this to listen just on .180 without rebooting
or must I reboot?
the thing is... the .180 has a /32 netmask
so I can't just remove the .179 with the /29 netmask
broadcasts will break. :(

yeah - crap - I think Garry mounted "disc1" and not the dvd.
I don't know why disc1 doesn't have a fixit shell, but it doesn't.
