up_the_irons: so apparently you don't manage reverse DNS with ARIN's templates anymore (even though they are still in the template :(
you do so in their new web-based interface
well, at least it's easy now ;)
***: skate111 has joined #arpnetworks
skate111: Hey guys... anyone had any issues setting up reverse DNS? I've tried both setting a PTR record directly through the customer portal as well as setting NS records to different DNS servers. ...on the server itself I can reverse the IP just fine but on almost every other machine I've tried it alawys gives me a FORMERR or SERVFAIL reply
up_the_irons: skate111: you just missed:
11:27:08 @up_the_irons | so apparently you don't manage reverse DNS with ARIN's templates anymore (even though they are still in the template :(
│11:27:26 @up_the_irons | you do so in their new web-based interface
skate111: there is one /23 of mine that has a wrong delegation :(
skate111: so it doesn't point to my servers, but servers of an old customer. I was just able to update that today (I tried last week with ARIN's templates, only to find out you don't do it that way anymore)
skate111: so i think in 24 hours, everything should have fully propagated
skate111: ahh okay :) I was starting to think I was crazy... now it makes sense :)
thanks garry
up_the_irons: np, sorry for the needless hassle
skate111: I thought it was something I was doing wrong... kept searching all over the 'net and nothing seemed to directly pertain so I figured I'd run it by you/other customers here :)
Now I know not to sit there racking my brain and just give it another day or two to propagate
up_the_irons: yep, nah, i'm sure you were doing it right

RandalSchwartz: up_the_irons - can you increase the virtual disk size without copying the data, or do you need to copy the data?
I'm just wondering if I can do the same thign here that I did in my vmware test
up_the_irons: RandalSchwartz: we don't do any copying, just expand the lvm volume; the rest is up to the customer
RandalSchwartz: cool
neil's 20GB machine overflowed again this morning. :(
up_the_irons: ouchie
RandalSchwartz: yeah, especially when I start getting Nagios SMS while travelling internationally. :)
as in, the SMS are flowing, but I can't even log in to fix it, since I don't have any wifi nearby
up_the_irons: oh man!
RandalSchwartz: oh wait... it was the 30G machine, but still
up_the_irons: yeah
vcs: i remember running early exchange servers if you filled them up the box was prety much dead
RandalSchwartz: I think he wants to just add another 20G to each machine, but I'll verify that with him and put in a request.
vcs: those were the days.. not

up_the_irons: dos attack earlier. offending vps shutdown and canceled. sorry for the collateral damage.
funny, i looked through all the bandwidt graphs, and i could tell who had failover systems (their traffic went to zero and never came back)
(so it switched to some other provider)
jazz57: The problem I had was it switched back when a ping manged to get through.
up_the_irons: yeah
i think i saw those too ;)
jazz57: I need to work on that.
BTW, up_the_irons: Have you checkout out Tata Communications (AS6453)?
I think they have service in the Wilshire Annex.
up_the_irons: they do
they have a big suite too
they tried to sell me bandwidth as well
but i already buy too much
jazz57: Heh.
jdoe: up_the_irons: eh, risk of a vps, it happens.
jazz57: They might be a better match than Level3 if you decide to dump gtt.
I did some traceroutes from their looking glass and was impressed.

may check 'em out then
jazz57: Nodes everywhere too. Just saw they now have one in Russia.
