up_the_irons - at the moment, it's just backed up offsite. Eventually, I'll probably have a small monitor box (at a third site :) that pushes the right DNS for the service that's up, or maybe just proxies to the up server. RandalSchwartz: cool proxies are great when DDOS is a potential, put the proxy where DDOS is easier to defend (more bandwidth, more capable staff/network to thwart DDOS) then let your actual data reside on unknown remote hosting centers that are economcial for hosting data not receving DDOS stuff. an interesting technique I read about a few years back. interesting yeah yeah - babee yeah! if you are getting ddosd you will need a special host with facilities designed with that idk the specifics though child processes not exiting >_> eating up all my ram silly apache I did a pretty good job resisting slashdotting by using pf traffic shaping my most memorable thing to do with traffic shaping was to throttle all incoming email from windows machines to share a single 56k virtual link :) RandalSchwartz: what got /.ed an article on my site Or maybe it was the story about my legal issues I can't recall now RandalSchwartz: i read about your legal issues on wikipedia a while back; man, that sucks what happened. glad to hear they expunged it in the end yeah - apparently the expungement means nothing to the feds though as I was told by a member of the CBP a few weeks ago to the feds, I'm a felon until I get a pardon from the president. :( maybe he was just blowing smoke cbp? california beach patrol? customs and border patrol like baywatch? do you have problems at the border? I applied for the preferred entry system apparently unavailable to felons but I had thought my expungement erased that not to this guy. :( :( oh well, at least amex paid my $100 application fee I was out only a couple of hours of my time and now I know not to try for SENTRI either since GOES failed the trick here is to become a felon after you're on the preferred entry list I'm sure they'd cancel it immediately then :) RandalSchwartz: still a felon to the feds? man that's f'in bullshit RandalSchwartz: can u still buy firearms? Portal is going for a reboot you guys are hardcore yeah, except when i *need* a gui, usually for a browser. then i fire up awesome. not as hardcore as you lol you upgrade to 11.04 yet? nah dinner, bbl pz me too hey jlgaddis how do you switch between panels in a window i have 0,1,2 how do i switch to 1 or 0 its not like switching wnidows.. ctrl-b # i usually just ctrl-a o (remapped ctrl-b to ctrl-a) cycle through them i can ctrl b o ah yeah i hate cycling heh would rather specify from knownig the ID you can do ctrl-b q to show the numbers yeah when they pop up, just hit the number you want oh nice thanks :) bbiab np tmux rocks typing in it right now too bad freebsd broke it :( had to undo the freebsd patch here RandalSchwartz: yeah, waht is up with FBSD breaking tmux. I even opened a bug about it and got nowhere. Anyone on kvr12? i bet you are =) jazz57: kvr12 here err wait, I'm kvr13, and kvr 15. my bad. Seems sluggish. they'll need a lot more info than 'sluggish' diskio? network? cpu? what specifically seems sluggish? I had some ping timeouts. It took several attempts to get in via ssh. It seems to be localized to kvr12. 40% packetloss. i got an alert for kvr12, yeah jazz57: ^ looking into it lots of traffic passing through it right now; will shut down the culprit should be better now up_the_irons: Yep. Looks good now. jazz57: i'm still seeing a bit of network drop, but it should be a lot better than before ping look good now. ssh is responsive again. cool Good test for my dns failover. nice Thanks for the speedy service, up_the-irons. jazz57: ah, no problem at all, it's what i'm here for :)
