ahhh TGIF. eyecue: congratulations on surviving black friday ): *:) muchos gracias what a week aye spend the latter half of today enthralled in rack and rack accessory pricing from our supplier and trying to work out front and rear of rack configurations up_the_irons; on a related note, ive specd and quotes the apx sx's and switched pdu's. s/apx/apc im currently stuck on vertical cable management for the front of our patch cabinet :| hmmmm only a couple of minutes until I can play "Lets see how bad I can stuff up my MythTV setup" :) azmarco: please msg me too jesus christ i love internode. made a plan change last night adsl1->adsl2+, rollerover is midnight tonight, and theyve already made the dslam switch i 'knew' my IRC messages were downloading faster tonight :D eyecue: wow, thats fast internode are oarsome seriously i was loading up apc.com and though to myself *hell thats quick* eyecue: when I was in Brisbane internode didn't have any equipment in my exchange did a speed check and realised i was getting 600k/sec yeh me too eyecue: Roma Street exchange? and im only on their easy reach (telstra wholesale dslam) my current exchange is in build for node dslam few weeks i might be able to switch again :) I had to go w/ TPG in Brisbane, they were okay, but half the battle was getting the phone connected in the first place gah, flaky internets :| I was originally going to go via iiNet, but they couldn't get Telstra to connect the phone honestly, i cant ever recommend anyone other than node ive been on dsl1 for 2 years coz i lov enode so much eyecue: yeah, I know plenty of people that love them so the last plan i was on (yesterday) was dsl1 40gb, upstream only for 69.95 $20 for 100GB? :P current plan, adsl2+ 60gb, upstram only (including power pack for 10/mo) for 59.95 :) so same price WIN! don't you mean $10 cheaper? well, the 59.95 counts uploads/downloads you pay 10 bucks more, it counts down only and you get a stat ip eyecue: for comparison to NZ... We pay ~65NZD for ADSL1 (at 2mbit/s), 30GB/mo ~50 AUD hmm gah ! and you have translatlantic traffic fail :) next month, we'll be paying a combined 105 for phone + broadband you can take about $50 off that to take away the phone component, so ~55NZD, for ADSL1 (2mbps) & 40GB oh noice 2mbps is because I live 5km from the exchange :) ahh im pretty close oh wait, it's only 45 for the home phone, so ~60NZD for the Broadband so it seems that NZ is cheaper than Telstra wholesale plans? possibly, ish my prev plan was grandfathered 2 years ago you get downstream only counted ? nope, most ISPs count both directions eyecue: but I'm going to be laughing soon ive only ever been on down onlies eyecue: next month (I think) the Rural Broadband Initiative goes live, and if what Telecom has told me on Twitter is true... I should be able to get Fibre to the Door pretty quickly oh nice :] people that have Fibre running past their property in the RBI areas, can get FTTH and Telecom happen to run a lot of their Exchange/National backhaul fibre alongside/through our property sexy as :) heck, we aren't allowed to dig in parts of our property without consulting Telecom but meh, it'll be all worth it if we can really get Fibre to the Door :) and it'll be much better than the 5Mbps wireless access promised to everyone else :P eyecue: for what it's worth, I'm still jealous of the NBN :) yeh, its pretty sexy :] they keep promising FTTH in the UK too FTTC is starting to catch on here, but of course you only get ~40mbit/s with that (and still the same crappy upload) bob^^: FTTC+VDSL? bob^^: is the C in UK Curb or Cabinet? cabinet here, G in areas which are FTTC enabled there's a large street cabinet every few streets in residential areas then VDSL to homes bob^^: yep, was just checking, because there is also Fibre to the Curb yeah i think that's a US thing? Australia has it as well mainly in Canberra this is our only FTTC atm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Infinity the criticism that wikipedia lists is correct; there are a lot of complaints here about the street cabinets they are *huge* the town i live in is 500 years old; they look *very* out of place and ugly :( bob^^: http://www.nbr.co.nz/article/chorus-half-way-through-fibre-roll-out-now-comes-hard-bit-122413 is what NZ has for cabinets G: look about the same as the ones we have - ours are just the same but taller :) http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/193/050ea.jpg/ oh, they look like the old style ones here these new Telecom cabinets here and a nice shade of green *are a hehe all of the street cabinets (even the old small voice ones) here are about the same shade of green that's just so they can say they are going green hehe in fact, if I was building a house, I'd actually paint the outside in the same Green :) outside or roof ours have been the same shade of green forever :) depending toddf: the shade of green in bob's picture is pretty much standard in UK based countries I think :) toddf: but NZ has chosen a newer darker green :) darker would be better, less obvious :) bob^^: you can kinda tell the shade of green in the picture I sent yeah defintely a little darker than ours the new cabs here are quite noisy too especially in warm weather when they have to turn on the ventilation systems bob^^: old style cabinet: http://chillingsilence.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/telecom-geek-exchange-tour-2009/sdc10908/ new style: http://chillingsilence.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/telecom-geek-exchange-tour-2009/sdc10909/ yeah they're very similar to our old cabinets apparently the new ones are really really really quite i hope so hence why they are called either Single or Double Bay Whisper Cabinets the ones here are really bad if i lived beside one i would be complaining to BT yup. zxfer rocks mabel.insightcruises.com is now replicated to a box in texas, including all the snapshots! hmmmm anyone else noticing IPv6 packet loss? ahhh actually, might be at he.net i'll check now seems ok here ahhh yeah, it's the tunnel server at he.net ahh :( i was going via genuine he.net v6 transit from london :) mtr from my arp box to my tunnels IP, = packet loss at the tserv, mtr from home to arp box, = packetloss at the router after the tserv gotta love mtr :) mtr is a great little tool :) my CIDR report is now squeaky clean: http://www.cidr-report.org/cgi-bin/as-report?as=AS25795&view=2.0 100% aggregation now if we could just get the rest of the internet to do that.... moin :] up_the_irons; where do you put your switches in your racks? front back, middle top ? koobs: back top in the server cabs? and you trunk cables off to the side then down the vert rail ? im looking over various schools of though about equipment layout koobs: yes, server cabs koobs: with 4x pdu's per cab, i don't have room for vertical wire managers, so i don't trunk them off to the side ive seen some pretty good comments around rear middle positioning, for shorter cable runs and visibility (dont have to get up on a ladder) just straight down and velcro'd nicely ah ok and youve got the 1070's iirc yeh ? yeah side to side fans for the switches then ? whatever the switch supports oo procurves have a modular fan assembly and up_the_irons, does your toilet paper come off the front, or near the wall? :) Hi, can I request for a reset back factory default on my VPS? I already emailed support a few hours ago but as of this moment I dont get a reply. RandalSchwartz: LOL atmark: it should be done shortly
