bagh! I apparently had a 2 year contract with my previous host and switched 2.5 months too early to arp, waste of stupid $ stupid self, stupid contract reardencode: hosts still have contracts? lol up_the_irons: was a leased hard box from 1and1, apparently so. ah, hard box yeah, I had some odd obsession with having my own hardware until recently, waste of my time, sanity and $ it turns out. haha yeah now the hardware is your problem! srsly anyone network switch gurus here? trying to decide between netgear GS105NA vs GS605 I have a bunch of 608's. It's a dumb switch, so it's pretty hard to get wrong. IMO the only real difference is a fashionable plastic case vs. the blue metal one. i don't like the plastic case i like the blue metal one it has those nice indicator lights in the front too the metal case is much more robust if you're intending to use them anywhere work-related (plus the metal cases are wall-mountable) well its not work related but its going to be in behind an entertainment center that has a bunch of crap and I roughly pull cords thorugh it and stuff so metal would be nice anyone like a specific kvm? i'm in the market for one looking for recommendations "specific" kvm? RandalSchwartz: I've got a feeling as in Keyboard Video Mouse, not Kernel VM ;) oh yes, the keyboard/video/mouse variety =) we have avocent gear all over work, and they are, well, tempermental not a hardware guy. dunno anything about those also not a mouse user. :) i try not to be too trackpads rock especially multitouch avocent is awesome! milki: ip kvm ? coobra: kvm over ip? those ip appliances offered by avocent eliminates need for serial cables everywhere! :D people still use serial cables? ;) milki: to be honest though, I prefer Serial consoles milki: especially since it seems to be the most reliable place to get "Help I've just crapped myself" messages from the kernel in weird crashes (that's just my opinion anyway) can probably do serial kvm over ip too the ip kmv products ive seen used were vga+usb for display/keyboard yeah, the cyclades units are really good, do a serial to cat5e conversion and they are great but they are soo expensive -.- i managed to swipe an iogear ps2/vga kvm switch for 2 computers -.- but cat5e cables are so much nicer -.-
