chessI gather a few folks around here use mailroute. I'd be curious to hear how people use them (i.e with postfix, or in front of gmail, etc). Anyone use their outbound/smart host service? [11:14]
***zeeshoem has joined #arpnetworks [11:14]
chessI'm asking b/c considering going back to running my own mail server on an arpnetworks vps with mailroute in front [11:15]
RandalSchwartzI'm using mailroute yes.
and their outbound
which saves me from being blocked by google apps
for some reason, even though I'm not on an RBL, google apps still blocks red.stonehenge.com
chess - do you know about the individual account from mailroute.info?
(not to mention the 10% discount forever)
[11:21]
chessRandalSchwartz: thanks for the info. Yes, the individual acct is very inexpensive and I see the TWiT discount ;-) [11:23]
RandalSchwartzI was formerly running spamassassin and greylisting
they're doing that plus more
and if they bless my outbound, even better.
the only downside so far is there doesn't seem to be any knobs to adjust
I suppose you set thresholds by support requests
so basically, you install it, and it just starts working
nothing obvious to tweak
[11:24]
chessinteresting, so no control panel to access SA or whatever else they use [11:25]
RandalSchwartzright
just a web access to the email they diverted
can't even send back ham and spam
unless there's some interface I haven't found
[11:26]
chessseems pretty neat. I guess if you use their outbound you don't need to worry about reverse dns, spf etc [11:26]
RandalSchwartzwell - you have to worry about spf... :)
as in, if you have spf, you have to turn it off, or acknowledge them
[11:26]

seems like a nice service

Gwhitefang: not sure what vnstat has to do with peering, but I already use alternatives for network monitoring anyway [11:38]
chesstoddf: ah, ok. I need to read up on that. I don't recall having to do that on my own openbsd boxes [11:39]
toddfbah, even RAMDISK has it now. silly bios provides a mpbios table when there are not multiple cpus presented. this locks things hard on bootup for the guest os. reset and set accordingly.
chess: this is a factor of the bios used on the kvm instance at arp. newer kvm uses different bios without this issue, but it also doesn't let you boot off a cd for e.g. recovery by hitting f12 on the vnc console
chess: if you wish this fixed there is a general open plea by any openbsd users of kvm at arp to find someone who can provide a newer bios for newer kvm that doesn't have the mpbios issue but does have an f12 option present for a few seconds at bootup
[11:39]

unix_usrI added a second VPS tonight, (*new one; larger to replace current one)
I requested /29 this time versus single IP on current one ...
they expanded current one into the same /29 .... so the current vps is using the first avail ip in the subnet :S

RandalSchwartzahh yes

[21:41]
unix_usrso duh! - yes something is using it - my current vps :S .... stupid me just took out a whole whack of stuff using that server for a few minutes too :(
all good now at least
have FreeBSD 8.2 up and running now :)

RandalSchwartznice. I'm upgrading in a few weeks [21:42]
unix_usrcustom kernel compiled, just waiting on some cvsup'ing to finish before giving her a reboot ... :)
I literally *just* finished migrating a bunch of servers to 8.1/SPARC ... :S
8.0 has some issues doing mlppp within the stock ppp daemon - so needed to go 8.0 -> 8.1
have multiple bonded ADSL lines using MLPPP for our internet connection at home :)
using small Sun Netra X1 as my router/fw

RandalSchwartzwell - time to watch V and the cape... [21:44]
