I suppose it makes an alternative to md/lvm - you could use a different filesystem on top of the zfs backend. trying to work out which was buggy if you had an issue though would be fun

depends on what you are doing with it.  there is no simple formula for how much ram it'll want.

i currently have 768 on my plan...
I do 1 jail per service, usually.  they can share the same IP.
so mail gets a jail (pop3, imap, smtp, and webmail)   www gets a jail (webserver,  plus whatever dynamic languages I load up)  BIND in a jail,  etc.
for clarification:  jails that don't need to open the same port,  can share an IP.
