Any Tech alive? hi tech is kind of a vague word, so.. ask a question and see if someone can answer ;) Hi jeff I open a ticket to support, for asking a question with RDns, didn't get any answer, dont know if staff receive my ticket, have home internet issue did you wait at least 24 hours Jareth, I responded to your ticket, with a ton of troubleshooting involved. However, I don't see that email in the portal. give me a sec and I'll re-paste. Thanks Jeff! btw congrat for your good work, my VPS run very very weel Jareth: I re-pasted the email. let me know if you recieve it in the next few minutes. (since I sent two of them now, don't be surprised if you get a duplicate later. also, if it doesn't make sense, I'm happy to try and help you over IRC. hrm, looks like none of my ticket responses have gone out this morning. I'll have to see what's going on. I receive it, Thanks, 174.136.105.194 is set since yesterdays morn, and Didn't resolv in my side, oddly, I dit a flushdns etc.. and can't get it resolv for my ISP that email goes through the troubleshooting I did to come to my conclusion. but since you're here.. you need to add an A record in your zone for NS1 and NS2. I added ns1.xvision.us and ns2.xvision.us A record to 174.136.105.194 and 174.136.105.195 sould be ok? not yet. read the email ;) at the end, I mention that even querying your NS's directly gives a REFUSED message. "You nameservers are refusing the query for PTR." hum hum, I try to figure out that problm in other news... ICANN changes its name to ICANT :) heh ICANHAZv6 Jareth: I flushed my DNS cache. but I still get an NXDOMAIN when I try resolve the A record for your ns1 and ns2. normal, I fucked both my named :p I re-do the setup from tarball, not the apt-get Jareth: while I'm all for running your own NS.. sometimes, I think it's prudent to ask yourself if you really need to. are you doing something that could just as easily (or maybe even easier-ly!) be done by outsourcing it? for example: http://dns.he.net is free, and solid. all you have to do is click "add zone" and set it up. or afraid, or zoneedit, etc etc indeed. I know enough about DNS to run my own nameservers. but I also know, I don't have needs that make it practical. I use he.net and similar services myself. i will fix it, haven't running bind9 since 2 year, so need to remember something but thanks np. btw, if you DO want to run your own NS.. you can still use some of those other services to slave your zones.. giving you geographically distant secondaries. jpalmer stille alive? Si nice, I see A records for ns1 and ns2 now. let me try PTR still getting a REFUSED response for PTR yep i fixed xvison.us.hosts now dont know what's happened with my ptr file " eb 3 12:17:20 segfault named[30623]: client 46.102.243.139#34805: query (cache) '194.105.136.174.in-addr.arpa/PTR/IN' denied " mmm ahh. it's a zone, ACL, or format problem. can you pastebin your "zone" stanza from the named.conf? jpalmer, http://pastebin.com/J8FR09ez ok, named-checkzone, and named-checkconf, what do they tell you? any errors in the logs when you restart/reload bind? jpalmer: http://pastebin.com/tJ9cdNmh it's my bind start log i see no error, only the PTR denied and the results of the 2 checks I asked about? named-checkzone no error, return "OK" and checkconfig same. ok. let me review your named.conf. sec That's my rev zone: http://pastebin.com/Rfh3yMq7 if you want to see it maybe it'll help :) when i query your server from within ARP, it works. from outside of ARp, it doesn't. I don't see a listen-on for IPv4. can you verify using netstat that bind is listening on IPv4? ok. from within ARP, I get responses over v4 and v6. from outside of ARP, I get REFUSED. hum oddly jpalmer, http://pastebin.com/mjK44WLK it the netstats result look fine to me i just popped in, but looks like an acl issue hum From my other us box, I can dig -x 174.136.105.194, Work, on my .ro box work from my .nl box not working i got it need to add: allow-query { any; }; to the zone setting you may want to make sure recursion is disabled jpalmer, mmm i'll forget that, stille having problm, Can you set the reverse for me direct on the main server? so you want me to remove delegation, and set the PTR's in our NS's for you? yep will be more easy :) if you can Jareth: I'm happy to do it (but will need you to update your ticket, and ask for it.. I don't touch the nameservers without a ticket) but, are you sure you don't want to use a service like HE's free http://dns.he.net service? keeping in mind, I don't mind one way or the other. I can setup the PTR's, that's not a problem. just trying to figure out which solution would suit you best. if you want us to handle PTR, please update your ticket asking for the delegation to be removed, and all of the PTR's you want set. (IP and hostname) afk a moment back. Okay, I'll do that. Thx np. sorry it didn't work out for ya. BIND can be a complex beast ;) jpalmer, I just opened a new ticket Thank you Jareth: np. working on it now. jpalmer, if you answer to my ticket, I didn't receive the mail :p Jareth: the request is done. I'm not sure why the support queue is slow.. but your PTR's are setup and done. thankys! have a great afternoone heya hi how's it going in here this evening? good :O watching some star trek deep space 9 how about yourself nice doing well just doing some misc. maintenance of things around here fun 'lo, up_the_irons hi phlux Not working too hard, I hope ;) just wrapping up some things Aye Thoughts on the IPv4 exhaustion? arp is ready at least :P True gary will sit back and enjoy watch everyone else scrambling haha I find it funny that out of the 6 VPSes I have, only two have native IPv6 The rest are all tunneled native ipv6 is great thank god for hurricane electric they will come out on top of all this thanks to their vigilant adoption of ipv6 Any of you in here have an IRCd/services preference? I'm using ShadowIRCd(a charybdis fork) and atheme, but I'd probably be using IRCu+srvx if it supported iris and qwebirc better. hi guys, new customer here, just wanted to say thanks for a quick vps setup enjoying the native ipv6 :) mig5: glad you like it :) ratbox up_the_irons: nice deal for new customers up_the_irons: might have one for you when I see them online next G: sweet :) some previous provider as me, and I think he agrees with some of the stuff I've been saying, so he might switch
