hmmm, seems i can't download on any one connection at a rate higher than 300KB/s on kvm13 wierd sorry it didn't use to be like that its like ftp is capped at 300 ive used several different methods to test the funny thing is when i open more than one ftp connection each goes at 300 lol anyone experiencing these types of problems well, good thing my ftp client supports X connections hax its all coils fault i knew it! lol nope im not on 13 vcs - do you have any kind of firewalling that might traffic shape? Randal: I am running pf, but not doing anything funky with it vcs fix my pf+ipv6 just normal blocking? plz! anything with the ftp proxy? or whatever that thing is to get ftp working and then, seriously, why FTP? Randal: same think with sftp or http yeah... still 21st century scp oh. weird. also it affects both up and down lol vcs do that speedtest from the site the 100mb.bin do you get 300k/s from there? i did a speed test from my collocated server you're running freebsd? 300kB/s well do it from the site damnit see what you get coil thats too close for a legit speed test imo im just curious if you get 300k/s there ok for me... 11 seconds, 8903k ok fine ill try :P i wonder how fast i'd get it over the vpn i get 8 M/s yeah me too coil that test is for perspective customers not for existing ones fyi so but it still shows that your VPS is capable of fast transfer so it's something further away can't blame ARP does the traceroute show any expensive hops wow - the rain is going sideways out here! well i used to get way higher speeds maybe it is a routing issue, ill do a traceroute 9 hops, 50 ms away im getting 600k/s over the vpn thats about all ive gotten ever honestly i would not mind 8 mbit/s download even ill see if i misconfigured something obvious but i have not touched settings in ages disabled pf, download rates remained the same what are you trying to download? sure it's not the other end? i did a speed test from this location vcs are you on cable internet get 30 mbits/s down could be a middle hop Randal i found a way around it some sort of traffic shaping when im downloading alot of files i just opened 10 connections at once all go at 300 lol somebody is shaping then upstream somewhere yeah, i didn't think it was arp because i wasn't able to try a different route to the box the collocated server i used is here in houston about 5 miles from me now meh, traffic shaping is so lame and 300 kB/s cap on data? insane... im going to find out who is responsible for this one this would be ok if it was 1998 do you have comcast or something U-Verse at home, 100mb/s at my collocated server, and Comcast here all of them capped at 300kB/s for a single connection how can all of those go over the same route each time? i dunno its wierd let me try a traceroute from my colo server i bet i can figure out at what point the throttling is wow, comcast has horrible routing traceroute does not appear to work haha comcast sucks do you even get out of your network? well comcast dns servers are screwy for one they were resolving to seatle level3 comcast might be bad yes hmmm but still, I do a wget from level3 datacenter in texas on my vm ill try that again now yep, its capped around 300 KB/s no comcast involved there lol also for the record my VM is uploading at a rate of about 2 mbit/s atm not that i think that matters i really dont think this is arps fault quit blaming people! coil this is a recent development hehe i used to get super fast speeds lol me too in summary, arpnetworks owns, some transit providers are assholes can you ping6 2607:f2f8:1280::2 PING6(56=40+8+8 bytes) 2607:f2f8:a5c0::17 --> 2607:f2f8:1280::2 16 bytes from 2607:f2f8:1280::2, icmp_seq=0 hlim=63 time=0.797 ms yes cant get on irc from ipv6 at all, from any ip I'm on irc from ipv6 ... -calvino.freenode.net- RandalSchwartz is connecting from *@red.stonehenge.com 2607:f2f8:3080:: same here yes i know, its my problem, i suck at pf rules they are horrible lol coil im the pf master sadly i dont have time today to help you another big deadline? yeah i finished my last deadline 11pm last night next deadline 8am tommorow morning did you get some sleep over the weekend? hehe :) not much yuck ugh - it's 90 out there. and muggy lol saving my ability to tolerate this for tomorrow, when I actually must. :) we're about to get an inch or more of ice, so they say She stole my hamster. idk who she was, she just walked in and said she knew Keith so she stayed, drank 6 beers, and then stole Charles. heh anything up with any of the bvps hosts? my guest is ridiculously slow, near-stock openbsd machine. downloading a package has brought it to a crawl. huge packet loss from my host. What gives? jdoe: do a traceroute. see if your traffic is going through miami? large fiber cut in miami today. no, the packet loss is the machine itself, presumably because it's ... well, I don't pretend to know why. the VM isn't overloaded, I assume the host machine isn't overloaded. but the performance of one of the two is unacceptable. jdoe: submit an email to support@ with your VPS uuid. the one experiencing the issue. my what? the UUID of your vps (it's found in your portal) oh you're staff, how 'bout that. yeah that could be a problem too. since support.arpnetworks.com claims not to have any account under the email address I signed up under. ... and apparently it doesn't, since I just registered a new one, but I know I've made support requests before. wtf. jdoe check your email it needs a username that was generated in the original emails after you signed up ;0 mutter. jdoe: saying "you're staff" is a bit of a stretch. I'm an ARP customer who liked the service well enough that I offered to help Garry out with the DNS requests that he gets.. so that he could focus on automating a few other things.. which in turn allos him to have fewer support tickets to handlle.. further freeing up more time :P jpalmer: you're listed as "support staff" on support.arpnetworks.com ;) sure, but really.. my access is restricted to having an account on ns1, so I can handle DNS tickets ;) ah haha Hi all. I have a quick noob question regarding the VNC access. My workstation at home is a Mac with OS X - latest version. I tried to connect using the Finder, with Go -> Connect to Server -> vnc://: and was unable to connect. The server is reachable via ssh macfisherman: on OSX, I use chicken of the vnc (3rd party download) sure, but OS X should be able to do it too. Just to be clear, I'm trying to connect to the VM console, not some vnc server I started in my VM. right, the built in vnc client didn't work for me. I had to use chicken of the vnc. i cant login on the portal :/
