francisco-reyesI emailed sales/support last night and gave my number so hopefully someone will call me today.. marked call as the preferred method.
I don't expect near instantatneous VMs.. however something within a few hours would be more competitive.
Most of the VMs we are creating at work are more about space than performance so saying that arp can perform better will not be much of a selling point unfortunately.
The little I saw so far of the Rackspace cloud management, I don't think I saw FreeBSD so right now they are only using some Linux VMs. I think they are open to FreeBSD (the office serves will be getting FreeBSD).

[06:35]
RandalSchwartztruly, there is a lot of competition out there. lots of solutions at various price points. I like this particular solution, which is why I'm here.
you want EC2 "deploy in 30 seconds", you know where to find it. )
[06:36]

mike-burnsWhat if we didn't pay more and also got a VM faster. Would that be fine? [06:44]

mick_home has joined #arpnetworks [21:36]
mick_homeanyone have this problem: I send an email to an unknown user and then my vps seems to hang after that- my ssh connections die and I just get operation timeouts [21:38]
RandalSchwartzwhat do you mean "unknown"?
the domain name doesn't resolve?
[21:40]
mick_homessh: connect to host ..... port 22: Operation timed out
RandalSchwartz: btw, are you merlin?
[21:41]
RandalSchwartz"email to an unknown user"
in what sense, unknown?
that's what I meant
[21:42]
mick_homeas in it doesn't exist [21:42]
RandalSchwartzlocal user?
or remote user?
[21:42]
mick_homei forgot to restart the mail server after i added an alias [21:42]
RandalSchwartzRandalSchwartz waits for an answer
it'll go faster if you answer my questions. :)
is there an "@" in the email address of the unknown user?
[21:42]
mick_homemick@mydomain.com sends an email to unknownuser@mydomain.com [21:43]
RandalSchwartzRandalSchwartz tries to make it simpler [21:43]
mick_homei tried to make it as simple as possible w./ that [21:43]
RandalSchwartzso you are emailing "mick"
or "mick@mydomain.com"
[21:43]
mick_homeyou didn't answer my question though- are you merlin? [21:44]
RandalSchwartzand is "mydomain.com" the domain that delivers locally to the box
I'm not merlin
But I often use "merlyn", yes.
[21:44]
mick_homeah i mean merlyn [21:44]
RandalSchwartzwhat mailer?
what name server?
what is your /etc/resolv.conf?
[21:44]
mick_homepostfix, and dovecot [21:44]
RandalSchwartzdovecot doesn't matter [21:45]
mick_homelocal or my server? [21:45]
RandalSchwartzunless you're talking about remote access.
mick_home - what's the difference?
[21:45]
mick_homei mean, my vps is not accessible anymore [21:45]
RandalSchwartzare you talking about *two* boxes? [21:45]
***ROBOTARMY has joined #arpnetworks [21:45]
mick_homei'm not sure that I'm making myself clear [21:46]
RandalSchwartzI know you're not making yourself clear
that's why I'm trying to ask
[21:46]
mick_homevps is down, it seems to always happen when i email an unknown user [21:46]
RandalSchwartz"I send mail". how. what application? [21:46]
mick_homethunderbird [21:46]
RandalSchwartzand from the VPS?
oh, FROM ANOTHER BOX
[21:46]
mick_homefrom another [21:46]
RandalSchwartzthat'd help to have known
ok, what's postfix saying in /var/log/maillog
right after you send that broken mail
[21:46]
mick_homei wish i knew :P [21:47]
RandalSchwartzuh - "tail -f /var/log/maillog [21:47]
mick_homenope, it broke the vps [21:47]
RandalSchwartzwhat OS [21:47]
mick_homeok again, if i send an email to an unknown user - my vps doesn't respond (to ssh or otherwise)
debian
[21:48]
RandalSchwartzyour vps is running debian? [21:48]
mick_homeosx used to send debian on the vps [21:48]
RandalSchwartzdoes it also fail pings? [21:48]
mick_homeyes [21:48]
RandalSchwartzok - I don't know much about linux
so I'm not the right guy
haven't run linux anywhere in years
[21:48]
mick_homelet me guess, you are now an osx guy? [21:49]
RandalSchwartz"now"?
I run freebsd on this server
the one I'm typing on to talk to you
[21:49]
mick_homeok [21:49]
RandalSchwartzand osx on my desktop
never ran linux on my desktop
only on a server eight years ago
[21:49]
mick_homei know a lot of perl people that are converts from linux->osx [21:49]
RandalSchwartzopenbsd and freebsd since then
well - my mac preferred apple OS
and that's all I've ever owned for home machines
from a powerbook 140 to this macbookpro
[21:49]
mick_homewe actually met once at YAPC::NA
in boca
[21:50]
RandalSchwartzcool!
well - boca was warm :)
