phlux: I taught as part of the MIT HSSP (afterschool/summer classes for nerds), then as part of Northeastern University's Bootstrap (after-school program for poor nerds), then I organized the thoughtbot Workshops (Rails classes for rich ex-nerds). Now I do nothing. But I met Taylor when I taught the MIT thing. Intro to Perl, Advanced Perl, and "What's Cool about Computer Science?" we the classes I taught there. you should consider doing an online class, all kidding aside. I've wanted to learn a language for years. but either time constraints, or pure "overwhelmed by information" has kind of always gotten in the way. I don't have the skills to teach online different way of working than I'm familiar with ahh, gotcha it's easier just to have people buy my books It's too easy to skip around, and miss critical pieces of info in a book. I need more of a structured environment. ahh, the lacking of discipline "ahh, this is boring, let me skip to the interesting chapters" indeed I'm familiar with that, being slightly ADD I'm not so much ADD, as.. I am REALLY strapped for time.. and in my own mind, I KNOW taking the shortcut costs me *more* time.. but, it just always happens. I skip right to the part I need right then, and never get to go back. "I'll do what I need for right now, and go back and LEARN it later" and we all know, later never comes. I can "get by" in several languages. usually, at a very slow pace and with much trial and error. but I don't know *any* language well enough to write a decent scrpt from scratch. (discounting shell scripts, and a little php) I learned more from experience than from class/books. That takes much longer, though. Yeah, it's taken me *years* Exactly. I don't do enough coding. I'd probably never consider myself 'proficient' at a language. but I'd like to learn enough to be fnctional in either perl, or python. mmm still loving OpenBSD Afternoon, is the IPv6 down at Arp right now? I'm receiving no route to host whenever I attempt to use it. Was working fine up until about a hour ago. my VPS is still up on ipv6 try to traceroute I ended up restarting the networking, again, its back up hey vcs :) mr sundial :) its shat lol on efnet :) haah lol hai check dmesg for wha? everything is up and running now for any network device timeouts except for me seeing this attack on my oidentd lol lol Getting angry at ln -s heh whenever I do ln -s /usr/local/bandwidthd/htdocs/ /usr/local/www/traffic/ then, go inside of .traffic/ from within /usr/local/www/ it has htdocs/ listed, from the bandwidthd instead of the contents of bandwidthd I just want it to, if I go into traffic/ and ls -lsa, it shows me the contents of /usr/local/bandwidthd/htdocs/ check this out :) :( http://pastebin.com/KaeZVREW I discovered that `ln' has a -v flag the other day. Can't believe it took me this one. long syn flood lol yeah pain in my rear i just removed the ip wait a bit added itb ack what OS are you on fbsd are you using syncache that can help im not sure blocking those ip's would help if they are spoofing nah good idea synfloods normally have spoofed layer 3 headers so blocking by ip is pretty useless most of the time yeah it was only for like 200k/s not really a big attack by no means box is using .78k/s right now OH OH 7k/s lol lol the probl with syn floods is a small ammount of trafic can rape all new connects i would turn on syncache if i were you it in ports? http://people.freebsd.org/~jlemon/papers/syncache.pdf its available through sysctl also turn on syn cookies sweet ty np here's one for ya when i start lighttpd: Starting lighttpd. 2011-01-19 10:35:38: (network.c.261) getaddrinfo failed: hostname nor servname provided, or not known ' 174.136.105.82 ' no reverse dns setup sounds like weird, it has rdns i wonder if I should use the host versus ip? you may need to set it in /etc/hosts to not get that eror if you have not yet put it in there tried to start, same error hmm i only know apche weird had to put hostname versus ip heh lol the arpnetworks vps page says openbsd 4.7 is supported. is openbsd 4.8 supported too? anything you want to install anything you want to point an ISO at. :) although, it may mean that you'll be booted with a 4.7, and you have to do the 4.8 install yourself you can mount any ISO you want in your CD drive.
