<3 my new vps
how did you guys manage to get such great disk i/o from freebsd in kvm?
it is pretty good isn't it?
yeah i've nver gotten it this good and i'm a pretty big fan of KVM
are there any arpnet admins here?
bigpic - possibly, but maybe we can help with something
we're experiencing an outage for one of our vps
it's been several hours
we've called.. but it goes straight to VM
and our ticket has yet to be opened
which host machine?
I have three host machines, and no problem
well - kvr14 and kvr05
I take it back. I'm on 5, 7, 8, 13
and all four of those are up
hm
is it possible to boot off a freebsd cd?
yes
presuming that's the one that's mounted
hehe
yeah i don't know
hit f12 during the initial poweron
it'll bring up a boot menu
i'm contemplating reinstalling so that i can get zfs
wish it was possible to just resize a slice
from there you can select the dvd preferred over the disk
Yes, I've installed ZFS on root on freebsd 8.0 and 8.1 on ARP machines many times now
there's even a wiki page for that
yeah that's what i was looking at
but i just got everything set up
i don't want to recomiple
should have thought of this earlier
how do you get the console via the ssh to work? i'm getting a strange error
console: connect(): 3109@kvr15.arpnetworks.com: Connection refused
you ssh to YOURNAME@console.cust.arpnetworks.com
presuming you've already given your key ot them
or do you mean the tunnelling?
to tunnel, you do the above, then ask for a tunnel via "t"
that'll give you a VNC pass-through
including the instruction to run :)
well i was just using the c option
from console@
ahh - I don't have that set up
it requires enabling a listener on your serial port
I tend to just leave that disabled
i got the vnc over ssh working
how do i make sure the proper iso is attached? i see /cdrom and /cdrom1 are mounted but nothing in them
you can mount them while up
something like sudo mount -t iso8660 /dev/cdrom /cdrom
but google for sure
ah cool
i see it
did that work?
i just did mount /cdrom
oh heh
cuz it was in fstab
it's not in my fstab
what's the line so I can add it?
/dev/acd0 /cdrom cd9660 ro,noauto 0 0
ahh - there ya go
Randal.. sorry jumped out for lunch
our ip is 208.79.95.234
can't ping it
what's the deal with them not answering the phone
bigpic: have you logged into the portal, and done a hard power down, and then boot?
or logged into the kvm console (vnc) and made sure the OS itself is running and OK?
shit what's the DNS servers that arp has
i forgot to save that part
crazed: there is a KB article on it. let me see if I can find it.
shit didn't know that was available
looking now
http://support.arpnetworks.com/kb/main/dns-servers
thanks
just got zfs root :)
nice
according to the control panel my vnc server host is: kvr05.arpnetworks.com
I've tried 2 boxes both with a connection failed
if it's not responding to vnc, you need to hard shutdown your VPS, and then boot it again
or make sure you're using the right port
ahh, the obvious answer. completely escaped me.
it's the right port
but if he can't ping his vps either.. it probably still needs the hard shutdwn/boot
hard shutdown initiated
yeah probably
I had that happen once. thought it was an ARP outage, and turned out I just needed to shutdown/boot
bigpic: did that work?
just hit boot a few seconds ago
i'm just waiting for it to respond to ping
active response... promising
sweet.. back in
nice
thx for the help
no problem
still very strange why it just went dark
i'll comb the logs
which OS? and.. let me know what you find. I never found the cause when it happened to me a couple months ago.
freebsd 8
nothing out of the ordinary in the logs
=\
jpalmer: ping
