Uptime's unaffected; must have been network. ok ty mike-burns can u check something for me may cc expired and i was requested to provide new info I'm not an ARP Networks admin, just a channel op. i did can u check is all ok oh ok nuke-: but he'll glady take your cc info and "check" it Heh. hehe hrm, lost connection to my VPS. but I can connect to the kvm console. looks like some kind of routing issue. tons of traffic to host kvr02; i suspect dos hrm, traceroute is showing a !Z up_the_irons: it's odd. I can't ping/traceroute my vps, but I can connect to the kvm console. jpalmer: weird hi up_the_irons my cc expired and i was requested to provide new info, i did it can u check everything is fine nuke-: not right now when u can, no rush, just dont want to get cancel or something :p Greetings. Having trouble with rDNS with my DNS hosting so I'm looking at getting a new provider. It is looking like I will use Amazon Route53 but does anybody have any other suggestions? The Route53 tools are interesting... Just a few perl scripts... https://dnsimple.com/ - also has nice tools. Never used them, though. mike-burns: They look good :) Actually, they might be the go! I'd be interested in hearing how they work for you. They're starting to advertise and promote around the Ruby/Rails comunities. I tend to stay away from Ruby related stuff... I'm not sure how to delicately describe my opinion on most of those peoples views. It might be worth knowing that I do a lot of work in the Ruby community for a slightly well-known Rails company. DDevine: not sure of everything route53 offers. but if it's just dns hosting, dns.he.net is free, and solid. I am tossing up dnsimple who somehow are cheaper than Amazon (WTF???) and have all the features I want. And Amazon route53 with more features than I want, very cheap compared to nearly everywhere else and because of their minimalist tools it is likely I will get my hands dirty (which is kind-of a good thing). I have been using FreeDNS (paid) and the service is very good and I like the dude that runs it, but I can't make PTR records. It does does IPv6 reverse, but not IPv4. check out http://dns.he.net jpalmer: checking it out now no API's that I'm aware of though. jpalmer: I don't need dynamic DNS, so it is fine. They look good. if it matters to you at all, I've had nagios monitoring all 5 NS's since I started using them, and up until yesterday, had NEVER seen a moment of outage on any of them (yesterday, ns3 was unavailable for about 10 mins, bu the other 4 were fine) I'm not one to dismiss free services, but I am wondering *how* he.net is free... and ns2-ns5 are dual stacked, with IPv6 glue. he.net is pushing hard for IPv6 adoption. they provide the free dns server, to help inflate the number of domains with IPv6 capable NS's. the basic thought is, IPv6 is never going to take off, until users are using it, and a good portion of the content people are using, becomes avialble over IPv6. so they offer the free tunnels, and dns, and such. jpalmer: I like people who push for IPv6 They seem fine, and I won't lose much (or anything) if it does not work out. Thanks! np, good luck. let me know how it works out for you. I'll definitely keep some notes on the suggestions. btw: if it makes you feel more comfortable.. you can run a master NS, and jus thave HE slave the zones. so *even* if their services are unavailable (haven't seen that happen yet) your personal NS would still be up and serving requests. jpalmer: Thanks, and that also should fill my "getting my hands dirty" requirement. Si. OK notes have been taken. Pre-flight check before moving DNS hosting. Also stumbled upon a nice document about DNS. http://www.zytrax.com/books/dns/ch4/ Bah I don't think I can sit down properly until I do some exercise... BBL. There is DNSsec on the .net tld now. I will have to work out exactly WTF that is and if I should use it.
