so that you can tunnel data securely

no - the ssh tunnel is parallel
there's insecure VNC using your mailed password
then you set up an SSH key with ARP
and once you set that up, you never use the insecure VNC again
so i can boot into single user mode from the VNC?
instead you use the choices from the secure connection, including secure VNC
