one of my NTP servers is less than 1 ms away, apparently

so that www.cpan.org would pick the "nearest" mirror
it's a bit easier for NTP, since you end up with multiple addresses, so you don't have to ensure you're handing out a live machine. jpalmer: pool.ntp.org still checks the server and removes bad ones from the pool RandalSchwartz: yeah, but it's not critical time, like www.cpan.org which is giving you just one address.
