oh, cacti in a box yeah, nice thing to have around for a quick install ultimately, I ended up using 'mtr' from the CLI of my desktop ;) I wish cacti would show packet loss... because, from what I can tell, it doesn't at least in CactiEZ (slightly older version of cacti in it) btw, you can pause 'mtr' by typing 'pa' while its running, but apparently, you can't resume it? I dunno cacti shows whatever youve configured for it to show works well enough for my purposes though I suppose I could take a look at the graph template for Unix - Ping Latency or what not, but that seems messy You could configure cacti to use a custom script that uses, say mtr, to show packet loss in a graph cacti is just a pretty frontend for MRTG, which can literally graph anything you throw at it yeah I'm sure there are a done of people using Cacti/MRTG with ip sla see, the plan was to graph bandwidth usage in addition to latency and packet loss, to determine to source of the issue on my ADSL ton* anyway, bed time. long day of qos tomorrow but using mtr, and past issues after a storm, I've determined the issue to be water in the line somewhere sounds like fun heh qos can be a pain, I know :( not so much. deciphering a client's cryptic 6500 configuration and rewriting it for JUNOS and NX-OS. Yay. seems interesting, none-the-less good luck thanks. ttyl alrighty, later man mornin folks. hi Woot! My apartment is now fully ipv6 enabled, including wifi. Took a while to get that right. Plus, there's a nice little script to update he.net's endpoint address for me, in case my IP addr changes. oh sweet did you make that script nah I found it on their help site awyeah: you might even do a pptp tunnel to he.net, if that's doable over there then you dont need a script :) true, but that's a PITA also, my address hasn't changed in a year I can't get my damn XP box to get the router advertisement messages. awyeah - why didn't you just get the v4 tunnel option? then it doesn't matter it Just WOrks I'm using it on my laptop, for example well I have my BSD box here running the tunnel and routing the IPv6 stuff sure... and? My Windows 7 box gets its IP address automatically same with my printer. but not XP, no sir. and? so far, sounds like you NEED a fixed address the v4 tunnel would do that no this is an internal issue with my network ;) so you just ignore the address the ISP gives you and? I'm still not seeing the problem in fact, it'd fix most problems your bsd box gets a random addr from the ISP it then sets up the ipv4 tunnel with he.net that's a fixed address nono, this isn't related to that. it can nat everything behind it you brought it up so I figured it's related I know, but that part is all set ;) This is just... Windows XP isn't getting autoconfigured by rtadvd. ... Plus, there's a nice little script to update he.net's endpoint address - for me, in case my IP addr changes. I'm fixing that for you yeh ;) if you don't want that fixed, then I'll stop the v4 tunnel fixes it and you get a v6 tunnel on that and your ISP would have to do deep-deep packet inspection instead of deep packet inspection :) as in, they can't throttle default ports since all your traffic goes to he.net haha true what is the origin of your nick? I was like 13 when I made it up ;)_ "awwww yeah" ok heh. it was my original AOL username waaaaaay back. I signed up for merlyn with the original Apple community it got merged into AOL and the problem is, they didn't recognize me as the same person when I signed up for AOL later but I said "darn it, I'm the *real* merlyn" hence, I use "realmerlyn" everywhere "merlyn" is already taken now. heh like AIM, Yahoo, Gtalk, etc when I can get merlyn, I prefer that so I watch techcrunch for all the new social websites and the moment I see one, I pounce on it to get merlyn yeh hey, either come in, or stay out! don't keep slamming the door like that! hahaha, sorry about that. was trying to debug something locally. debug locally, annoy globally! Hahaha. oh. So Symantec Endpoint Protection blocks all IPv6 stuff by default. Stupid IT-mandated software. Only took me 3 hours to figure tha tout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uLECuGK07U&feature=rec-LGOUT-real_rev-rn-4r-7-HM wonder who will help them get the car out later :p time for an emergency dd: http://twitpic.com/2g2ra8 broke the connector? yep ouch why did you do that i jammed a small piece of plastic in there to make the cable stay, and taped it on for good measure i didnt want to uncable my case from the back side because its all so tight, so i just yanked on the drive. would have been fine if the sata cable had been straight, but it was one of those right-angle ones so it snapped the little l-shaped piece of plastic off the drive ouch i was gonna try the whole dump/restore method, which seemed to be working except i wasnt sure how to dump / because it dumped everything recursively (including partitions /var, /usr, etc) so i said to hell with it, its not like the drive is actually going bad, i can wait for a dd to finish
