[12:36] I doubt that [12:36] never heard of one [12:39] any trick to installing packages? pkg_add with $PKG_PATH -> No packages available in $PKG_PATH [12:42] read the OpenBSD ports/packages section in the FAQ on the OpenBSD website [12:42] it's very simple [12:43] i'm pretty comfortable with it [12:43] cool, install your stuff then :) [12:47] $ echo $PKG_PATH [12:47] http://ftp3.usa.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/4.7/packages/amd64/ [12:47] $ sudo pkg_add python [12:47] No packages available in the PKG_PATH [12:47] Can't find python [12:50] try [12:50] pkg_add -iv [12:50] i did. no verbose [12:50] see if it gives output, I rmember this issue myself [12:50] trying to recall [12:50] yeh the FAQ is annoying on this one [12:50] mh [12:51] i can lynx(1) that url just fine [12:51] yeh [12:51] ergh [12:51] can't remember [12:51] :/ [12:52] and ftp(1) it just fine (the http://) changing to ftp:// it hangs [12:52] try [12:52] um [12:53] python-2.4.6p2 [12:53] use the full name see if it does anything [12:54] no dice [12:54] oh wait [12:54] damn yeh I need to remember [12:54] with the full url, it works [12:54] yeh [12:54] lame [12:56] i guess i am spoiled running -current everywhere else [12:58] mh [13:14] *** schmir has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) [13:20] nesta: fml. operator error. export $PKG_PATH vs export PKG_PATH [13:21] *** nakano is now known as nakano_ [13:31] hehe mdmarco [13:31] you got it anyway? [13:34] yea. works fine now [13:35] awesome :) [13:36] awesome would be packages via nfs heh [13:36] unmanaged vps is what you bought :P [13:37] do any companies provide that sort of thing? [13:38] true [13:38] what, packages over nfs? [13:39] yeh [13:39] i dunno. i do it at home [13:39] i like this vps tho. i'm pretty impressed [13:39] ah okay [13:40] awesome :) [13:40] they do rock [13:40] i got mine as a failsafe really [13:41] i have a shell on a friend's box, but i'm trying to prevent the situation i'm in right now where i can't get to my stuff at home [13:41] I've been pretty happy with them as well. So far, no downtime except when I reboot for freebsd updates. [13:41] i more or less block all ipv4 in, but ipv6 to a certain machine is ok [13:42] but, aiccu doesn't like reboots i guess, so i can't get back in [13:42] so, once i get home, i'll setup an ipsec tunnel from home to the vps [13:43] Yeh [13:43] I'm also doing some VPNish stuff [13:43] OpenVPN. [13:43] My apartment's network is tunneled, and my parents' network is tunneled. [13:43] so if i can't get home, i can get to the vps, then go over the tunnel. the tunnel will be over ipv4. ipv4 at home works, but, i block it. oops [13:44] So I can access my parents stuff from home as if it's on my network and vice-versa. Also I can access stuff on my network from the VPS as if it's local. [13:44] It's pretty neat to have those capabilities, eh? [13:44] i *really* want to get a little alix box at my parents and my in-laws and have that setup tunnels between all of us so we can share stuff super easily [13:44] need funding tho ha [13:45] I'm using dd-wrt. [13:45] well, the VPS is the "concentrator" [13:45] or maybe an armish box if we can get this port of openbsd going [13:45] but dd-wrt's got openvpn built into its vpn edition [13:45] awyeah: how much traffic are you using every month for it? [13:45] Don't know yet, it hasn't been a month yet ;) [13:45] heh [13:46] You know you can have them give you access to their cacti bandwidth monitoring softwaer [13:46] so you can check on your traffic [13:46] i saw the link for that article but didn't click it [13:46] Just shoot an e-mail over to support@arpnetworks.com [13:46] Cause honestly, I don't think much traffic goes through the VPN stuff. [13:46] but, that was part of the question behind packages over nfs. to save bandwidth [13:46] Also, this machine hosts web and DNS. [13:47] Don't forget though. Packages are usually fairly small and after the initial install, you won't be doing a lot. [13:47] i know. i was just curious =) [13:47] yep [13:48] at home, i have a perl -e in cron that pulls the stems of installed packages, and downloads any updated packages for them [13:48] Ah [13:48] all of them go in one place, and i have $PKG_PATH pointing to nfs where they all are [13:48] makes sense [13:48] FreeBSD has a mechanism like that [13:48] I can do "portupgrade -a" and then just sit back and watch [13:48] obsd does too [13:49] oh, so you're just making it hard on yourself? :) [13:49] i guess. heh. it's just a matter of setting $PKG_CACHE [13:49] but, i'd still need a way to get the stems of installed packages off each box [13:50] everything at home is {amd64,i386}-current [13:51] but 3 boxes are old. the 2 alix and a little one running on a 256m flash [13:51] upgrading them is a hassle [14:04] yeh [14:04] well it's time for me to head home. i'll be back on later.
