jdoe: devilspie is the solution to the metacity issues. up_the_irons: Did you take out the firewall rules for rate limiting SSH? up_the_irons: if I want to update the ssh pub key for console access, just re-email you an updated pub key? mike-burns: neat. +1 devlispie I have it set up a wonderful xeyes with no window border in the corner of my screen every time I log in. That sounds useful. how does it detect the window though? Keeps me from chatting on IRC all day, when I know the boss is watching! is it hooking something, or is it polling? I think it's probably a hook. Hook. I would hope. The thing is more "am I going to see the window flicker on one desktop before it gets moved to the right one" I do see that, but I don't think it's a poll. It hooks into the WM. I think there's no way around the flicker. ugh I know it's minor and trivial but that would annoy me :/ Understandable. Yeah. Hm, you could create the window hidden and then have devilspie unhide it, probably. There'd be a flicker as it sets it to hidden. like the way intel graphics used to garble the k menu briefly a couple X versions back.. or how gnome panels pause a second before the icons appear.. or how my lcd takes just a second or two too long to come out of sleep mode. If only you had a RETINA DISPLAY. Oh wait. Eh, you need to relax, but these graphics teams need to put more time into it. Really they need funding. I'll give xmonad a shot on tuesday when I'm back at work. I do like the idea of tiling wms. I've only heard great things about xmonad. Yeah. My boss runs it on his Mac. mike-burns: I liken it more to a dead pixel. It's tiny and insignificant, but as soon as you notice it, you focus on it. You can't not-see it. Thinks it's the greatest thing ever. mike-burns: flicker would be like that :) Plus the configuration language for xmonad is so simple my girlfriend can do it. haha. your girlfriend knows haskell? I don't know whether to be impressed or afraid. Heh. We're all very, very afraid. XMONAD mike-burns: stop referring to mhoran as your girlfriend. Hahahaha. mhoran knows Haskell? Hahaha. oh no, it's starting mhoran: if they made you in Haskell it would infer that you were just my type Nah, what I know about programming. jdoe: Haha. Hahahahahahaha. jdoe: Ha. xmonad reminds me of ratpoison They're both tiling WMs. and tiling rocks d^_^b: yes mhoran: no up_the_irons: Huh. I'm seeing a bunch of bruteforce attacks on my VMs and I've never seen this before. (Rather, I've seen it before, but not on an arp box.) This just started in the nightly mail for yesterday. i noticed brute force against my vps pretty much as soon as i got it (3-4 months ago) mhoran: on port 22? up_the_irons: Yeah. change default port? yeah I have someone from an arp ip trying to log in as root :-/ ! it's probably up_the_irons :) nesta: oh really? /msg me the IP nesta: don't do that. if he has your ip, he will hack your machine wat bob is right lol :) just joking sshguard may help about the above i get scanned constantly reguardless of where the vps is yeah but it wierd I know the machine that did it I am admin on it :S v odd so you admin a machine that bruteforced your arp vps? did not brute dorce force attempted root log in ahh that is interesting
