up_the_irons: jeeze.. you're low on stock already? up_the_irons: egads, ads, wikia I guess makes a living off spamming everyone with ads for hosting their wiki stuff up_the_irons: w/out ads and w/some tie in to existing customer id's might even be a plus for hosting your own wiki.. I'd vote no ads whatever you choose ;-) yay FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE. finally! yay release early. release often. release completely. wait. where do you see it announced? finally? it's been out for two days ;/ I'd be happy with just "release often" and "release completely". there's no mention on freebsd-announce and yes, release early = a bad thing imho ;) It's still not announced on the home page of freebsd.org . was it announced on some other list? remember freebsd 5? ;) We have a firewall running 4.11 4 was awesome the last version I used 5 was were I gave up on FreeBSD Geeks are the kind of people who remember individual versions of software. so how do we know it has been released? cos it's on the ftp servers... the /topic for ##freebsd still says 8.0-R-p4 and how do you know that's the final release? cvstag? because it's been uploaded as 8.1-RELEASE are you sure that's not the rc? i agree there should be an announcement yes normally RC's say RC are you guys so old school you won't even check the website? http://www.freebsd.org/releases/8.1R/schedule.html RELEASE build 09 July 2010 - 8.1-RELEASE built. I did and it said not readly yet. that's why I'm still confused :) it was kicking around on the 18th, as 8.1-RELEASE relnotes aren't ready 404 on http://www.FreeBSD.org/releases/8.1R/relnotes.html that's probably why no announce yet i believe it's still spreading to mirrors that said, it's taking longer than usual to spread if that's the case 3/win3 I should try upgrading my vmware image to see how many things break :) so far, so good here i was building a fresh dev box yesterday so shoved 8.1 on to try it out not had any issues so far it'd be nice if I had the release notes though so I can see what I would be concerned about i agree Colin Percival mentioned it on twitter. But he added that it hasn't been officially announced yet. infrared: yeah, that server went fast b/c i had a lot of people on the pre-order list chomping at the bit to get one... toddf: yeah, i'm gonna pass on wikia Im not seeing any 8.1 isos on any of the mirrors im checking and and i think it would be uploaded to ftp.freebsd.org first eh? i got it from ftp.uk.freebsd.org twiggz Those British with their dry sense of humor got you. that said, it's also on ftp.freebsd.org that redirects to http://aminet.net/ /pub/FreeBSD/releases/amd64/8.1-RELEASE use an ftp client? yep its there bobbo here is right i found it :) ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES/8.1/FreeBSD-8.1-RELEASE-i386-bootonly.iso that's the puppy i think ill wait. hehe i've not done that yet either :) not quite brave enough Ive used freebsd-update to update versions before...its a hell of a lot quicker and easier than from src yeah, it is good you can look at http://remotehost.co while doing it to get the warm an fuzzy feeling hah, not seen remotehost.co before
