Uhm, I didn't do any real extensive testing on performance, so I can't really speak on that.
However, the way I saw it was a good way to get your application and systems ready for EC2 deployment, before actually doing it.
I suppose that's the endgame anyway.

i've been a customer for a few months.. zero complaints

I run an irc network, running the parent ircd of this network....charybdis...i need to know if charybdis will compile on openbsd...if not...the freebsd vps will be more than sufficient.

nah, my irc network is no packet magnet...its small..and just for a few friends.
I also like to run a nexuiz deathmatch server.
I'm a long-time customer with one (and co-admining another) FreeBSD VPS.
how soon can my order be set up?
The uptime has been great, with I think only one unscheduled downtime in the past half-year (or maybe year).
Orders are processed around midnight PST.
(At least, they were; up_the_irons are orders still processed nightly?)
so my account information and vps should be set up by noon tomorrow? its 8pm CST here.
The best way to see if charybdis will run on OpenBSD is to install OpenBSD locally; that said, you can change your VPS as much as you want, basically whenever you want.
I can't make any time promises since I don't control that.
i know it will run on freebsd so ill stick to the safe bet ;)
openbsd is just smaller....
You should ask for OpenBSD but request that the FreeBSD ISO be left in the "CD drive" so you can re-install easily.

i think imma do some googling and see if anyone else has compiled charybdis on openbsd.
but im definately getting that vps special...no matter what OS.

I used to use a corenetworks machine of my own and lease jails to folks to help pay for the box...
jails make decent vps imo
(freebsd jails)

yes, i noticed the native ipv6, although i know noone that uses it...but it cant hurt to have.
ipv6.google.com has existed forever, and with the right v6 dns server, you can get all of google services with IPv6 addresses
but anyway, this is not #ipv6advocacy
I've idled here since I setup my VM roughly a year ago
have never seen major discontentment
some pplz have had slowness upon occasion, but that can happen if everyones cronjobs run at the same time on a given VM server, aka disk io and cpu suffer if everybody on a given VM server spikes at the same time, regardless of the VM tech *grin*
have seen very few discussions about that, and thats the worst thing I've seen mentioned
i rarely use cron for anything.
im a hands on type of fellow.
unix has a nightly cronjob ;-)
